Cristina Del Rosario, also known as Emoción, is a Venezuelan-American vocalist, songwriter, and producer among other things. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was raised with a passion for Latin American music. She never quite fit in and began to develop herself as a cellist and lyricist in the sixth grade as an escape from life’s harsh realities.
Often found “thugged out†with a cello on her back, in high-school Cristina was nicknamed “Emoción†and was known as competition when battle rapping the guys in her high-school student center. She soon began to focus her attention on her lyrical messages as she embarked on understanding her true purpose and responsibility. Skillfully combining English and Spanish rap and song, Emoción is a true work-in progress, unafraid to arrange distinct, organic instrumentals against her rugged lyricism and smooth singing style.
The first time I heard her music, I could not believe it was the same person spitting the tight flows, hitting the catchy hooks, and doing it all in multiple languages with such apparent ease. So much of popular music today has become tiresome, recycled, and filled with a stale fakeness as performers try to pose as something they are not. Emoción’s musical style is unique and fresh because it is completely real and genuine. The soul of her music rings true because her songs come directly from the experiences in her life.
Not surprisingly, her music speaks of hardship; but Emoción’s music is not just filled with heartache, no one loves to laugh, dance, and have a good time more than her! She is Venezuelan-American after all and is heavily influenced by her Latina, African, and Indigenous heritage.
Emoción’s debut album: Bathwater is to be released in January. All of the songs on the album are completely written, produced and performed by Emoción. She also writes songs, produces music, and engineers recordings for other artists.
