MP3 Violet Edge - 3-Song Preview of the CD 'Killing Time'

Hey there. Yes, you there. Do you get physically ill from the sound of boring music? The fastest cure is Violet Edge. MELODIC Rock with Female Vocals - with an Edge. The first song "Afterthought" lulls unsuspecting listeners...

3 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, ROCK: Emo

Details:
The first song "Afterthought" lulls unsuspecting listeners...and then the CHORUS lets them have it!

[This batch of CDs has been signed by Christina & Allen.]

"Afterthought" is Christina''s favorite First Song in a set list. She begins it quietly.

"When the kiss lasts much too long
and the day ends up all wrong
you know
no where to go
but home"

Using a pure, innocent tone for the first two verses, she watches the audience and notices they look very calm. Good. The shock to their systems will be better that way when the chorus comes around. There''s no more child-like innocence left for THIS part.

"WILL YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND
WHEN THERE''S NO ONE THERE
NO WITNESSES
AND THERE''S ONE THING MORE
TO KEEP INSIDE
WILL YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND?"

Some people can''t handle it. They need their singers safe.
"Who do you think you are?", they''ve complained.

But it''s the OTHER people who suddenly move forward to the stage that matter now. That''s the group that Violet Edge plays for. THEY understand the primal scream when the lyrics of "Jade" come to:

"If you leave my hands un-tied I
promise not to run and hide,
SEE THE WORLD
AND LEAVE THIS ALL BEHIND"

Oh yeah, Violet Edge writes gorgeous ballads too, like "Melissa''s Waiting".

"When I woke up from the war,
stone cold and grey in the winter time
And I looked up, and I saw
She was not the victim type"

Dark lyrics that get filled with sunlight. A beautiful song.

STORY

There is much that can be written about the band members of Violet Edge.

But the songs tell you all you need to know: dark, intense, on the edge of losing control. The rest of the story really doesn''t matter unless the Violet Edge music grabs you.

So if you''ve already enjoyed the sound clips and can''t wait to know more, continue on...

THE SONG

Everything about Violet Edge is about the song. John writes bass lines that carry the song, more in the vein of a guitar riff.

That allows Allen the freedom of intense guitar sounds and upper melodies that have to be heard and not explained.

Greg has an orchestrator''s ear and aggressively drums what the song and the groove needs, adding spice with percussion and also contributing lyrics and melodies.

Christina writes from the emotions that the new song is expressing, and her lyrics end up as a personal release.

THE PLAYERS

John has the wicked sense of humor in the group. He also keeps the band in suspense, arriving at shows 15 minutes before curtain. Then he cooly sets up his bass gear and he''s ready to play.

Allen is the type of guitarist that must start plugging in gear about noontime to be ready for a show. But the wall of sound he builds will surround you for days. A recording engineer and producer, he is now mixing the upcoming Violet Edge CD Killing Time, having created Space Recording Studio in the process.

Greg claims that he''s "just the drummer", but that''s true only if drumming includes songwriting, arranging, producing and engineering. His drumming is very powerful and he''s fantastic to watch play live.

Friends who have known Christina for years are still amazed to see her transformation when singing. "Often people underestimate me because I am so quiet in daily life, and I let them. It makes it all the more fun to surprise them later."

REVIEW

I don''t say this very often, but as you''re reading this sentence, download this song and listen. I am rarely taken by surprise when it comes to music, but Melissa''s Waiting blows me away right from the beginning. Screw liking or disliking something, this is just plain well done in every aspect of how we listen to music.

Okay, now I''m even more impressed. This band is from my own backyard, Denver, Colorado, a market from which I draw much of the talent I book. It''s too bad they don''t have much information on their bio page. I''d really like to know much more about this band.

What can I tell you about it? It''s melodic rock, a bit progressive with distinctive female lead vocals. I''ve been sitting here trying to get a handle on commercial comparisons and it''s tough. I get the sense of Concrete Blonde with a bit of Sarah McLaughlin or Tori Amos, but that just doesn''t quite fit for some reason. This is pretty damned original music, and while there are some commercial comparisons that can be made, the work stands on its own, complete and fulfilling in damned near every aspect. This music is fiery, passionate, and sensual. It contains elements that are stylishly theatrical, with a high level of sophistication.

The solo section of the song features some bass work that truly is magnificent. If you want a real treat, go to their website, Violet Edge , and download 160kbps mp3 files of this and a couple of other songs. Oh yeah, their website is just as enigmatic as their https://www.tradebit.com page.

Each of the players in this drama are experts, quality musicians, composers, arrangers, and engineers. Their work is the rival of anything I''ve heard online or off this past year, and easily slips into my Top 25 of 2001. The emotive quality of this work is nearly without rival, Christina''s voice soaring and swooping, staying on course for the length of the material she''s singing.

All that I seem to think doesn''t fit well is the simple drum intro and the fade out at the outro. The outro doesn''t seem to resolve anything. Actually, the feeling I got was one of not wanting to be resolved, but rather wanting to continue the mystery. [Note from Original Sine Records: the reviewer heard an edited MP3. The songs on the CD are full length with extended intro and outros.]

Bottom Line: Sublime music from a Rocky Mountain Band worthy of some serious recognition. The other songs on their site are equally as impressive. - Chris K https://www.tradebit.com
