Vivid Prophet
@Rest in God

Vivid Prophet hails from the UK, home of Drum & Bass, and produced a debut album with influences of Lamb, Kosheen, Ram Records, Red Snapper etc which sets them up to go in any number of different directions in the future. I say "they" but I really mean "he". Piers Williamson is the driving force behind this project bringing in fellow contributors to assist along the ride including the mesmeric vocal talents of Liz Hallam, production skills of Tony Silcock from breakbeat pioneers Psalmistry, and MC Edi Johnston.

The album opens with flutes, chimes, strings, and floating vocals that carry the skittering complex rhythms of "I Know" over a strictly analogue squelch of a bassline. This combination of polar opposites continues apace throughout the CD and provides the audience with intensely intelligent drum & bass experience. The complex work and well thought production gives the whole album a depth missing from many digital artists.

This album shows an artist coming to grips with his talent and experimenting to great extents whilst still retaining true quality throughout. The production of the entire album is top notch from start to finish and shows maturity in the treatment of all areas. The gem on the album for me is the understated "The Mystery". With acoustic guitars leading the structure joined by swathes of layered strings and a vocal drenched in lovingly handled effects, the drumbeat is just right. They all complement in such a Lamb-esque fashion; you could be forgiven for confusing the albums if the CDs were switched in their cases!

All in all, one can tell that there is still very much more to come from this artist, but "@Rest in God" provides a superb snapshot of potential glories that it would be entirely wrong to miss out on it. Whether needing to chillout in the bath or pump yourself up for a banging night out (I recommend track 5 - Dissolution Flex - cranked to the max!) there is something on this album for everyone.

Can''t wait for the follow up...
