NEW ALBUM REVIEWS:

From this month''s https://www.tradebit.com:

"In the opening track, I could swear he''s bearing down on a violin with a saw blade. Through it all, he warbles in a way I can only describe as a deep-grooved drawl filled with bleary-eyed nights, hot coffee, scuffed boots, and flickering neon diner signs. If you are desperate to hear something completely different, put on this CD...If his music sounds spirital at times, he''ll quickly remind you that the preacher is standing in mud up to his ankles. Definitely worth a listen... it will definitely scrape the Top 40 glitter right off your stereo." Read more...

Vlad''s record is this month''s "EDITOR''S PICK" in the great online magazine Smother. They write:

"No way did this album happen in New York City. How honestly could you fuse a ukulele and long-neck banjo that glaze Americana and roots rock with a veneer of Midwest attitude...yet another reason to migrate north."

And this just in - in this month''s https://www.tradebit.com:

"...an immensely enjoyable album. Though the banjo, ukulele, and harmonica (all of which Vladeck plays) don''t exactly seem like they''d be pouring out of the speakers of the Bowery Ballroom, songs such as "Coney Island Baby (I Am Yours)," "Avenue U," and "Chinatown" integrate the city into Vladeck''s country sound...For any music enthusiast, Andrew Vladeck brings something completely new to the table."

BIOGRAPHY

Vladeck started hot-wiring old instruments because he loved their vibe but wanted more juice to rock them with his band. He soldered a pickup into a beat-up banjo, smelted a cell phone mic to 1930s ukulele, and plugged in his guitar, fusing his influences together - the modern and the historical soulfully melted into one with truly great songs and a great sense of humor.

Andrew Vladeck has just finished recording his DEBUT CD on the New York indie label Organ Grinder Records. Featuring his red-hot musician friends Fil Kronengold, Greg Gonzalez, Jason Crigler, Dan Green, and Rachel Loshak, Vladeck''s album ranges from sizzling banjo rock with The Victory Horns to gorgeous ballads on autoharp and guitar, to rollicking, upbeat, ukulele songster pop. An amazing variety of songs which makes for an exciting and beautifully put-together album.

Vladeck grew up surrounded by music. Vladeck''s parents resurrected vintage, chrome-fendered jukeboxes and filled them with hundreds of garage-sale Motown 45s. It didn''t hurt that his father''s cousin, David Bromberg, made a huge impression on Vladeck with his eclectic American music mastery. Didn''t hurt that Bruce Springsteen once ran into Vladeck while rushing out of an elevator on 57th Street where the teenage Vladeck was a lifeguard, and a touch of The Boss''s musical mojo rubbed off.

Blame whomever you want. Born in NYC, Vladeck first performed publicly while serving as a NYC Park Ranger, and currently performs both solo and with various incarnations of his band which can include between three and seven members, including organ, pedal steel, and brass. It''s something else when the horn section arrives, the uke''s plugged in, and the whole band rollicks with "What We Gonna Do?!?", about one of the times their van died in the The Middle of Nowhere. Get the CD and check it out!

Vladeck''s been playing downtown for a while now and has lots of great, talented friends. He performed for the Best of the Living Room Concert Series, Arlene Grocery included him on their "best of" CD, was commended by Indie Band Search''s Best Unsigned Band Competition, and shared the bill with David Johansen at NYC''s 3 Farms Festival. Vladeck''s debut CD, on the NYC indie Organ Grinder Records, will be officially released this winter, but is available now through CDbaby!
