Biography:
Waking James is a five-piece original band that formed at Drew University in early 2000 and has successfully toured east-coast colleges, prep schools and club venues for almost two years. From the moment the band formed, their tight chemistry was obvious. They have worked hard at developing a unique sound that combines modern rock with old school funk/groove jams all infused with guitar-driven classic-rock melodies. Following a few weeks of writing, the boys (originally a quartet) decided to bring their original high-energy music to as many people as possible. After only a handful of shows they quickly dominated the local club scene and WJ was born. Dubbed a high-energy "jam band" by their fans, Waking James has been successfully gigging for roughly two years.

In late 2000, the boys recorded and released their first full-lenth CD entitled Fiberglas Road. Behind the sales of their CD, extensive college networking, and an intense playing schedule, Waking James had begun to accumulate a large and loyal following of fans from many different cities and universities around the Northeast.

By June of 2001, with almost 8 months of steady traveling and performing under their belt, WJ began a summer of great accomplishments. On the strength of the CD and an infectious live show, the band won several competitions. Within a four-month period, they were chosen to open for The Doobie Brothers at the 6th annual A&P Tennis Classic held in Mahwah, New Jersey. They won a summer long, statewide Mars Music "Original Band Search" which resulted in an endorsement from the company. And they were victorious in a summer-long Battle of the Bands at the famed Northern Lights Club in Albany, NY that resulted in an opening slot for The Samples.

In February of 2002, Waking James was invited to compete in a National Battle of the Bands at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Over 400 bands were submitted for the competition, and Waking James was one of only 18 that were invited to perform on the main stage of the Rock Hall. WJ made it to the final 6 bands and lost to the eventual winners.

After a rather relaxing summer, Waking James has been busy at work writing songs for their sophomore record, Enjoy Tuesday. The band is currently hard at work in the studio, and they are hoping that the new album can propel them even further into the national touring market. Their newly fined-tuned sound, with its unique blend of groove, modern rock and funk, and their highly energetic live act (based on their strong friendship), indicate that they will surely create large numbers of fans wherever they go.
