Woody Lissauer Bio:

Over night sensation? Not if you have been listening to Cubic Feet, Multiplex, Strangelove, The Gordon Michael''s Band, Crack the Sky, Living Colour or countless other groups in the Eastern U.S. with whom Mr. Lissauer has either played or produced. His playing blends the heart of emotional expression with the head of technical wizardry. "My father played wonderful old folk songs for us (he had a huge collection of early folk and blues with which he DJ''d at Johns Hopkins'' WJHU radio in Baltimore), and at age six I made him teach me how.. I never stopped." Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland and Ontario, Canada he was exposed to and developed a love of languages and words that remain a hallmark of his writing today. Playing concerts for the school by the 4th grade and warming up for Steppenwolf as a teenager, led to a BA in composition, studying under Hank Levy at Towson University and culminating in a personal program with the late, great guitarist; Larry Wooldridge (Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald etc.). Graduating into a full-time life on the road, New Wave, Jazz, Prog-rock, Original, Folk, Fusion and more featured his dazzling guitar playing.

{Band History: Out of TU Woody was immediately hired by the popular Gordon Michael''s band (A&M records) where his sophisticated musicianship, multiple instruments and stage presence made him an instant favorite with the crowds. Playing full-time continued with various bands and styles during the years like Cinematrix w/Laura Hunter (Chrysalis Records), Crack the Sky (Lifesong Records), U.S. Bang (gigs with Kix, Aerosmith''s Joe Perry etc.), Multiplex - the first band to take the ''New Wave'' music full-time in the Mid Atlantic. Touring up and down the East Coast and Caribbean continued with Strangelove, Zanzibar, even Maryland''s 1988 number one country band, The Alamo Band. On keyboards with Pebbles and the Bam Bam Boys, he once played in front of more than 80,000 people. All the while he was writing and working on the CDs of his own original group, Cubic Feet, which got signed to a lucrative publishing deal by Warner Brothers 1989. Cubic Feet CDs, produced by the famous Peter Solley (The Romantics, Peter Frampton, Oingo Boingo etc.), and engineered by Shelly Yakus (Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks etc.) have achieved international airplay, cracked the top 100 at a mainstream radio station, reached the top ten on several college stations, and even been number one! Becoming comfortable as a producer in the studio, Woody has made recordings for dozens of artists in many styles and learned to work the intricate modern studio like an instrument}.

All that experience taught him how to express himself on almost every instrument and on his debut solo CD he puts it much of it on display. In 1998 he teamed up with English folk recording artist (& sister) Kate Lissauer, well-known Eastern Shore singer Chris Noyes, Cindy Leo & others to infuse a female and Celtic component into his sound. This, combined with the futuristic drum tracks, exotic instruments, sophisticated production, and strange chords; creates unique recordings that change from song to song! A must-hear!

Woody''s voice is also like many instruments, sometimes growling sometimes soaring, always emotional. Find out why this CD has been called "One of the most naturally musical recordings I''ve ever heard. Inventive mix of a wide variety of genres, each painted with delicate nuances appropriate to it''s style." by Glenn Hammett, writer for the Absolute Sound, Hi Fi Heretic, Tracking Angle and Sounds Like... magazines. Woody has been compared to Joseph Arthur, David Grey, Beck, Bowie, Peter Gabriel and Radiohead.

About the CD:

The vast majority of the parts were played by Woody on this beautiful journey of self-discovery.

The wide variety of instruments that he has picked up during his long and varied career, are combined and mutated in creative ways to mold a symphony of cacophony, a soft shimmer on a razor''s edge.

However there were very important contributions made by some of his favorite musicians, especially in the areas of drum kit, and female vocals. Notably, Woody''s sister Kate Lissauer sang and played banjo. Kate is a popular and critically acclaimed recording and performing artist in England. She specializes in American Traditional music and is on Wildwood records.

Jimmy Wilson James H. "Jimmy" Wilson
Attended the preparatory department of the Peabody Conservatory of music, and has his own record label. He studied privately under the late A. Jack Thomas (Bandmaster), as well as guidance from his grandfather, James H. Wilson, Sr (who founded the Music Dept. at Alabama A. & M.), a renowned trumpet virtuoso and bandmaster in his own right.

Chris Noyes is a well known and well loved singer from the Eastern shore of Maryland with a beautiful voice trained in opera and celtic music. Chris has a popular CD of her own, and a master''s degree in voice from TU.

Jeffrey Grabelle Plays the precursor to the cello, the Viola Da Gamba. This beautiful baroque instrument, hand made in Holland, has a lilting and haunting tone. Jeffrey has played for numerous baroque ensembles and pre-renaissance operas.

Crash Kundrat is a vetran of countless tours. He''s drummed with Cinematrix, Toy Soldier, The Headliners.

Jupiter Lee is a unique drummer. In Los Angeles at age 18 he showcased around the Hollywood clubs. Jupiter met Woody when they played together in the band ''Alexis'' in the late 1970s. He has just released his second CD Echo and Art featuring world renowned Baltimore keyboardist Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater. Jupiter is now the East Coast Editor for"Highwire Daze" music magazine. have raised the bar for prog-rock in the mid-Atlantic area.

The song Imagination is a tribute to the late Brian Durham, and the entire CD is dedicated to him and his creative spirit. It was a song that Brian and Woody had started recording before his death in 2001. Many of the musicians who had played with Brian over the years came to my studio to honor Brian by playing on Imagination, including guitarist George Biggs (Multiplex), drummer Myles Evans (Living Colour), drummer Spike (L7) among others. Brian was a consummate and ground breaking performer and a profound, concise writer. He had real genius and kindness and will be missed.

Spike was discovered as a young drummer by Brian Durham, who took Spike (then Kevin Settles), into his wave-punk band, L7. It bacame impossible to ignore his powerful voice and he moved from behind the drums. Today he sings lead on Led Zepplin and more for the popular Baltimore band, Never Never.

Lending a further exotic flavor to Woody''s CD is Tammi Hessen who plays the African Djembe drum. She plays four days a week for Baltimore''s Sankofa Dance Troup.

Myles Evans (drums, percussion) - coming from a musical family, Myles has been playing music all of his life, and first started performing drums with his father''s big band. He studied percussion for five years under the tutelage of Dick Bonenfant from the US Naval Academy Band. He was with with Magnetone artist, Rich McCready on his North American arena tour with Diamond Rio & Patty Lovelace). He has performed over the years with David Kauffman, including a 40 city North American tour and a 3 CD set.

Jamie Wilson is an active percussionist with gigs going back to the CBGB''s of the ''70s and beyond. He has a long discography and is in O''Malley''s March, featuring the current mayor of Baltimore.

These performances were only the beginning.
After the performances were recorded, Woody moved, massaged, mutated and layered the parts like paint on the canvas of his revolutionary digital studio, creating hitherto unimaginable rich textures of breathtaking beauty.
