"This is a study into the fertile & creative mind of one Craig Yaremko, big apple jazz-saxer & composer. Craig''s originals are extraordinarily varied, and develop organically from one musical arena to another. I sense a ruthless drive for pefection. He''s well on his way! This is an ambitious project, plus it contains a jazz artist with a towering desire to succeed. Burn on guy!!"

The Craig Yaremko Quartet is one of the truly unique groups on the New York/New Jersey jazz scene. Since their debut CD Brasil was released in 2001, the Quartet has been bringing the music of Brazil to audiences throughout the area, at such venues as Trumpets and the Zinc Bar. The group focuses on performing music that is rarely heard in the United States, including lesser known compositions by Brazilian masters Hermeto Pascoal and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Their newest recording Persistence features original compositions and improvisations by some of New York''s talented young artists.
Up and coming saxophonist Craig Yaremko has been active in the New York City area for quite some time. A performer on all saxophones, flutes and clarinets, Craig enjoys varied musical interests.
A native of Clifton, NJ, Craig began playing the saxophone at age 9. He performed throughout middle school and high school, during which time he studied with Mark Friedman. Upon graduating high school in 1997 Craig attended Indiana University, where he studied with David Baker. Shortly thereafter he transferred to the New School University in New York City, where he received his B.F.A. in Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance in 2001. While at the New School, Craig studied with renowned saxophonist, and doubler Ken Hitchcock (who passed on the teachings of Joe Allard), as well as jazz greats Jane Ira Bloom, Richard Boukas, Joanne Brackeen, Joe Chambers, Eddie Gomez, Barry Harris, Junior Mance, Cecil McBee, Ron McClure, Charles Tolliver, and Reggie Workman. He was also selected to perform at the Zoot Sims Memorial Scholarship Party, where he performed along side greats such as Bill Crow, Michael Moore, Bill Charlap, Peter Bernstein, Bucky Pizzarelli, Lee Konitz, Ken Peplowski, Lew Tabackin, Joe Temperly, Frank Wess, Benny Powell and Jon Faddis.
Craig''s talents as a saxophonist and woodwind doubler have allowed him many performance opportunities. He has performed throughout the United States, Canada, England, and the Carribean, as well as at top venues in the New York area, such as Radio City Music Hall, the Zinc Bar, Trumpets, Cornelia Street Café, and the Knitting Factory. Craig has performed with renowned jazz artists such as Helio Alves, Paulo Braga, Randy Brecker, Candido, Paquito D''Rivera, John Riley, Paul Meyers, Bob Mintzer, Dave Samuels, Bobby Sanabria, Byron Stripling, Dave Valentin, and Ray Vega. He has played with the New Jersey Symphony, the New York City Symphony, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey''s Circus, and backed up artists such as Michael Feinstein, Paul Sorvino, the DuPrees, Duke Daniels of the Platters, Bobby Rydell and has performed with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. He has extensive musical theatre experience; including productions of West Side Story, Bye, Bye, Birdie, Hello Dolly, Crazy For You, and The Sound of Music.
He performs every Monday night with the Cecil''s Big Band at Cecil''s jazz club in West Orange, NJ. The Big Band, directed by pianist and composer Joe Elefante, showcases some of the New York area''s finest young talent. They will be featured this November on ABC''s Nightline. Craig also works with many other NY/NJ based big bands, including those of Gary Morgan, Howard Williams and Rich Szabo. He is a member of the Fort Lee Saxophone Quartet; a classical group comprised of some of Broadway''s finest musicians.
