"By Prescription Only" is the sophmore album from Yogi AKA Captain Asshlole after his debut "Soiled". Quickly dubbed "By Rx Only" his second album is produced by Halo''s Dreama and Leylo and recorded in Sacramento California featuring 19 tracks. On this album Yogi turns down on the Captain Asshole persona that was so enraged on "Soiled" and shows the more emotional side with Yogi. Don''t get it twisted though, there is enough Captain on the album
with such tracks as "Chemical", where he spits his deep voiced antics that simply can''t help crack a smile on your face.
New to the Halo realm on this album is the vocalistic Adamus, whose album is in it''s finishing stages now. Adamus brings his impressive singing and musical influences on "By Rx Only" to open up the musical horizon that Yogi has displayed so well. On ''Hey, Mirror" (also featuring Leylo) Adamus smooths out the tempo and shows his saavyness as well as on "Nothing''s the Same". Also introduced for the first time is guitarist Sampson who displays in his debut well with extremely srong performances on "Strings", where Sampson solos off into the end of the song in a dramatic electric guitar rift. The two who are in fact brothers combine with Yogi on the haunting track "Psycho", perhaps the albums most musical and powerful song. And the for the first time
since the Halo album "First of Many...Proclaim the Name" Man at Arms makes his voice heard with a powerful performance on "One" explaining why he and Yogi
should be "number one" and why so many Hip-Hop artists basiclly should''nt. Producer Dreama joins in on the vocal performance with Yog on the fun-radio track "Drinkin'' on the Weekend" (heard on Sacramento''s QWOD 106.5) a song that everyone can play while enjoying festivities of weekend loungin''.
"The overall feel of the album is a lot different" explains Yogi in comparison to his first album. "I wanted to make songs that revolutionize the way people think, I want to make music that people will still want to play 10 to 20 years from now, if not longer. It''s hard to do that with Hip-Hop since Hip-Hop is always fixed on current issues and lifestyles. I''ve been listening to a lot of other music that has been around for a while, songs people still play over and over, listen to again and again. I want to make songs like that. Those kinds of songs have made an impact on someone''s life and that''s why
people still play those records. They relate to them somehow and with what I''m talking about on "Rx Only" I think a lot of people can do the same" says Yog.
"By Rx Only" was recorded in a very dramatic and emotional time in Yog''s life. He helped his father through a heart transplant, lost a close relationship with a girlfriend, had to deal with the departure of Halo''s most prolfic emcee and very close friend Seven to the U.S. Navy, and Yog even questioning his own faith. By listening to "Rx Only" you are able to feel the emotional roller coaster Yogi paints with his voice. "I still have tracks that make people laugh" states Yogi. "That''s always been a favorite of mine was to make other people smile, but on this album with all that I was going through, I mean, most people would''nt have even been able to put out an album. I am fortunate to have close friends in the people I do music with, and they helped me through it all and help me put it into music. I''m still the Captain on a few tracks, but you get to know Yogi a little more on this album compared to Soiled."
You should hear "Skitzo" where Yogi battles Captain for domination. Overall the album starts to do things with Hip-Hop that really hav''nt been heard. The sound, context, and feel are completly different than anything heard before in Hip-Hop. "We almost don''t want to call it Hip-Hop" says Yogi,"We feel more comfortable just calling it "Our Music".
