Rhythm and Soul singer/songwriter/producer Yusuf Malik just completed his first solo CD but he is by no means a newcomer to the world of entertainment. Hailing from Jackson, MS this Chicago resident is ready to take on all comers with this stunning release.
Yusuf''s debut solo effort is entitled "Memoirs" a collection of mellow tunes, meticulous songwriting, and soulful vocals depicting the struggle of a man in life, love and loyalty. Yusuf will be making live appearances at select music outlets and colleges to promote the release.
Yusuf is a classically trained vocalist. He began his training in organized choir at the age of 14 and continued in that training to the age of 18. He was so influenced by music in his life that he decided he would actively pursue music as his career of choice, and began making steps towards that goal. Two years out of high school, he teamed up with 4 guys he met while attending college at Jackson State University and formed a group called ADORE. The group became the most widely known musical act in their area. During that time Yusuf performed at many entertainment venues throughout the country. BET soundstage recruited the group as part of their black college sports tour where they performed with other acts such as Carl Thomas, 8 Ball & MJG, Field Mob and many others. Yusuf continued to grow as an artist and learned more about entertaining as a result of having shared the stage with so many established acts. He went on to compete with the group at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York for the internationally syndicated TV show
"It''s Showtime at the Apollo" where Yusuf led the group to its first victory in an international talent showcase. Afterward the group released their debut CD that outsold Destiny''s Child in their first week in their local market. Yusuf contributed to the project as a vocalist, songwriter and co-producer.
After 6 years together the group saw themselves at a stand still. Their manager had been shot five times in an attack at a bank in Jackson, MS. And numerous other ills had befallen the group. Yusuf decided he wanted to do more. He started work on his first solo project, which is now known as "Memoirs". The project was vocalized, written, produced and arranged by the artist, and is a debut release that you will not want to miss.
