Details:
Swedish power pop with catchy melodic hooks and sincere lyrics, Zambonie''s music resembles a dialogue between a vintage synthesizer and witty guitar riffs. Zambonie''s sound is reminiscent of bands such as Weezer and the Rentals, and can be summed up in two words: intelligent rock.

What is the formula for an intelligent rock band? It is a mix of talent, dedication and originality. Erik and Kent Widman, the sibling duo behind Zambonie, fit that bill. The Widman brothers grew up in the suburbs of Sweden listening to early 90''s alternative rock, Euro-pop and Abba. Growing tired of Swedish fish and long winters, the two moved across the ocean in early 2000 to pursue their musical aspirations. With the addition of synthesizer/piano player Chris Sjoquist, and formally trained jazz drummer Jon Wert, Zambonie was born in Kalamazoo Michigan. Though each member''s musical background may seem eclectic, Zambonie utilizes this diversity to create a sound that is equally vintage and inventive - oftentimes parodying indie rock itself.

The band''s second full-length album - The Beautiful Disaster - (Hip Records 2005) is an astounding piece of artwork that reflects the many facets of love. Writer Erik Widman shows a very personal side on the record using his private life as the framework for this masterpiece. "I wanted to create something that everybody can relate to. My intention was to show every single aspect of love: from its eager, awkward beginning, to its magical illusion of perfection, and the heartbreak that follows. Music is much more special when you can relate to the words and express your feelings in sound. I think people will connect with this album on an emotional level."

Zambonie''s greatest strength lies in their songwriting that incorporates both pop culture and emotional themes. In ''Meadows and Straight Jackets'', Widman describes a man''s submission with the voices in his head: "I like you and your shoes and your Fonzie-like cool. Your Velcro-straps, polyester/flannel shirts make me feel safe..." The personification of the voices in his head are both amusing and personal. Most songs are melodic and memorable, driven by excitable drumbeats. While familiar pop sounds are created in traditional ways like handclaps, the true talent of the band is shown by creating hooks in songs in non-traditional ways by using falsettos, violins and cellos, and even playing cardboard boxes! Complete with "Woo-Hoo''s" and whistles, Zambonie has discovered uncharted territory in the world of indie rock. Such quirky originality is a key component of the Zambonie sound.

Equally as important as the music is the artwork for the record. Using a watercolor-based abstract motif, Zambonie creates a visually dazzling world where oddity is the norm. The abstract art matches the colorful, and at times almost atmospheric impression Zambonie leaves on the listener. By combining music, artwork and poetry, the band has created an amazing multi-medium piece of art that can only be described as The Beautiful Disaster.
