At a time where football (soccer) and hockey ruled the household, an 11 year old punk accumulates the courage to ask his dad for a guitar. Expecting sheer disappointment in his father’s response, the punk simply gets a nod. Was that a “yes”, a “no”, a “maybe”, a “perhaps”, a “sei schemo”?
All I can remember is that the next day, he drove me to a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. When I entered the establishment, I realized that I was in a shrine…wall to wall acoustic guitars. Dad simply said “choose one quickly, we don’t want to be late for football practice”…
That was the beginning of my musical journey…and it’s been a totally insane ride. What really helps is when you have support from family and friends…cheers peoples!
A couple of years later, my 3 best friends and I were just chillin’ outdoors dreaming about what our futures would hold…you know, foolish “dreaming out-loud”. In a semi-serious tone, I said “why don’t start a rock band and become the coolest rockers in school”? Two months later, Rejoice was born…my first band made up of 4 best friends. Jonathan had picked up the guitar, Boner had picked up the bass guitar, and Ken (my current producer) picked up the drums. We grew as musicians and our mélange of musical tastes allowed us to be….different. In the end, we were 17-18 year old rock stars…in our own mind.
A few years later, the impossible became an ugly reality….due to outside circumstances, the band split up and the former “blood brothers” didn’t speak to each other for over 6 years… I vowed never to be in another band again… BUT, the creative beast inside was relentless…I shortly began learning the art of songwriting.
After recording heaps of demo tracks, KeeLime came to be…
Creating music is like love…first you learn to play by the rules; then you put the rules aside and play from the heart.
Music now allows to soothe the savage beasts inside Fred and I…in the end, music washes away from the soul, the dirt of everyday life!
