Praguedren – Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder ep – dank disk 409
From Prague, newest dank disk signing Praguedren make indietronicambientdub that reflects sounds trapped and liberated by history of that city. Fog is a trip into the alley that leads to the green door where you’ll find Absinthe and the sound of the green fairies talking in their own language into your ear while the rest of your body drifts away with the next glass. Nod is what you’ll be doing as an electroambient pulse held down with a dub bassline massages your ears. Magik Realizm is the dark repetition of life in the former eastern bloc with the hidden escapes just below the surface. Bell towers creates a raw dub track with the bassline based on the actual bell tones from Praguedren’s neighborhood bell tower. Magik (ambient mix) strips the track to sub bass tones and the wafting treated tones dubbed into the back of your head, magick indeed. Primitive Dub radiates delayed decaying circuits into the brooding Eastern Blok.
Tomas e and Sector 17 both come from the street art / guerilla graffiti movements that fuel the hidden clubs of the city.
The tracks were recorded in the basement studio (r.a.z. studios, East Prague) of an ungrounded apartment building which forced Tomas to remove the fuses from the washer and dryer circuits of the building so they could make the final mixes without the popping of the circuits overloaded by the apartment’s washing. The ep was mastered by Jake Perrine at rfi mastering in Seattle, a fitting choice given that Jake has worked with some of the best in ambient dub. A full length release is already in the works for dank disk. Label mates Canartic have found a fitting partner in psychill soundwaves.
