The Mena brothers were born and raised in Guayaquil-Ecuador in a family of musicians. For the Mena family learning music and playing an instrument was tradition, therefore the Mena brothers had no choice but to pick an instrument and learn it.
They all attended music school at a very young age and studied classical music, but at the same time they were exposed to various genres that shaped their musicianship: classical from music school, Latin/Folk from their grandfather, Americana/Pop/Rock from their parents, and heavy metal from their uncles, as a result compositions by the Mena brothers are very diverse.
The middle brother Andres was the first to start writing original material, he decided he would dedicate himself to improve his songwriting skills rather than his instrument skills like his brothers. Andres'' first compositions long lost and forgotten were mainly influenced by American and British Pop/Rock artists that his parents listened to.
Soon the other brothers started contributing with their compositions after seeing the results of Andres'' efforts. This resulted in compositions that ranged from Pop/Rock to Jazz fusion. However with Andres (MenO) as the front man only the softer Pop Rock compositions are performed.
In 2002 the two oldest brothers moved to the United States and started recording the original material with contributions from the youngest brother Pechiche (as the Ecuadorian media knows him)
via the internet. Pechiche remains in Ecuador as he is also pursuing an acting career, but hopes to join his brothers soon.
After almost 6 years of writing music, the material for the first MenO album "Tales of a Dreamer" was selected, re-recorded and produced by Andres and Jose and its scheduled to be released in late 2008.
The material seems to capture that older Pop Rock sound with some updated rock elements.
