Details:
Formed in early 2007, The Bridgeburners are Jimmy Ulrich (formally of
The Supermen and Last Years Youth [GMM]), Nathan Pionke (Southpaw
Manners), Mike Smith and Seth Grissom. They come from St. Louis
Missouri, home of the "Godfather of Rock ''N'' Roll" Chuck Berry. With a
sound born from a mix of 80?s hardcore and European streetrock they
set out to play honest rock ''n'' roll influenced by Ultima
Thule/Headhunters, AC/DC, Skrewdriver, Brutal Attack, Slapshot, Böhse
Onkelz, Slade and The Accidents. Their debut album is now available on
Dim Records CD/LP.

Interview from the Boot''s and Braces zine:

1. Well, first, introduce yourself and your band.

Nathan:
I play bass. Jimmy is on guitar, Seth is on drums and Mike yells.

2. When and why did you decide to create a band? Why the name The
Bridgeburners? What would you tell us about your history?

Nathan:
I guess we wanted to start a band because not only do we love playing
music but we felt there aren''t too many bands that are worth their
salt these days, especially in the States. I could name quite a few
European bands that know what''s up, but I''m hard pressed to find
decent American bands. They are there of course, but for such a large
country, and being the birthplace of Rock ''N'' Roll, it just doesn''t
make sense that you have to dig so deep to find them.

The name was the idea of our first drummer, Steffen. I''m not sure if
the translation into Czech works, but in English someone who burns
their bridges severs their ties from people in an irreparable manner.

Jimmy and I had been trying to play together in various bands for
years without ever really finding a well-rounded lineup. He and
Steffen started playing together to hammer out some song ideas. Things
went well and Jimmy called me up. Mike joined the band about 6 months
later after we went through a vocalist that didn''t work. Steffen, who
is a union ironworker, couldn''t find work in St. Louis where we are
based and had to move back to his hometown. Seth stepped up to replace
him after seeing us play shows around town.

3. What recordings have you already done? Are you satisfied with them?

Nathan:
Our full-length album "War, Conquest, Pestilence, Death" is our first
recording. It is going to be out on vinyl and CD on Dim Records in
Germany this September. We are really happy with how it turned out.
It''s 13 songs of honest, pounding Streetrock ''N'' Roll!

4. What are your favorite bands and your most inspiring bands?

Nathan:
Ultima Thule, Badlands, The Accidents, The Staggers, Tom Waits,
Cro-Mags, Vanilla Muffins, The Professionals, Slade, Those Unknown. I
guess I''m all over the place.

Jimmy:
80''s metal, classic rock and RAC.

5. Who from you is compositor of lyrics and what are they about? Does
anybody from you play in another band?

Nathan:
We all just stick with this band. It eats up all the free time any of
us have. Playing in two bands is as big a headache as trying to be
married to two women.

6. How many shows did you play, which bands do you play with? Who
would you like to play with in the future?

Nathan:
We''ve tended to play a few every month so far. We are going to start
playing less shows in our hometown and concentrate on playing abroad
more since our record will be out so soon. We will be playing the
Recession Festival in Atlanta with Oxblood, The World Police, The
Broadsiders (also on Dim) and a bunch of other great bands.

We play shows with our good friends The Brassknuckle Boys a lot and
have a few more shows out of town set up with them. We fit well on a
bill with them. It''s a good melding of music for one night.

7. How would you describe current situation - as for the scene and
music - in your city?

Nathan:
St. Louis has a few really good bands but terrible audiences. In
almost any other major American city these bands would have a huge
following but most people in St. Louis can''t be bothered. They don''t
see a show as something you have to participate in. They come and
stand there and expect to be entertained. They think of bands in the
same way as a clown at some kids birthday party. They have some
unearned sense of entitlement. It''s funny how people who do the least
with their lives are always the most judgmental of others.

8. Do you know any czech bands? Which one, do you think, is the best?

Nathan:
I?m familiar with a few. I like The Riot the best. They remind me of
Stomper 98. There isn''t very good distribution for European bands here
in the US. We have to cruise the internet to find the latest and
greatest. Myspace sure helps with that, eh?

9. What do you think about a/ Dim Rec. b/patriotism c/hooligans
d/islam fundamentalists?

Nathan:
A. Dim so far has been great to us. Uhl is just as excited about the
record as we are, which is always a good sign. We can''t wait to get it
out there for people.

B. It is a lot harder these days to be a patriotic American with a
moron as your president who spies on his own people, lets'' them die in
botched relief efforts to natural disasters, causes a recession, and
sends our soldiers to war to die on a lie for his oil buddies. I don?t
hate my country but I sure hate my government.

C. In regards to football I think they''re necessary. Our modern world
has taken its toll on mankind. It is human nature to be violent. When
you dress people up in suits and stick them in an office for the rest
of their life they need some sort of outlet for their angst. Many
people need to release their anger and it''s better they do it against
a willing participant like a rival firm than bring a machine gun into
the office and mow down all your co-workers. Sure, some people can
release their anger in ways that are non-violent, but that just
doesn''t work for everyone. People are different breeds.

D. I despise religion in all its forms. It''s oppressive, ridiculous
and the cause of most of the worlds'' problems. We would be better off
without it.

10. What would you like to do in the future?

Nathan:
We want to tour Europe. It isn''t an easy thing these days. The
American dollar is becoming more and more worthless and rising energy
costs compound the expense of travel. On top of that, with kids and
jobs needing your attention it''s hard to find the time. But make no
mistake, we are going to do our best to get over there sooner or later!

11. Ok, anything else that you''d like to say? Would you like to say hi
to anyone?

Nathan:
Hello to anyone who is waiting for the record to come out. I think it
will be worth the wait!
