Transcendental Railway Station...

As yogis and yoginas alike streamed into City Centered Yoga, A Dana Baptiste Studio in Salt Lake City, they found a surprising sight. "Hello, I will be your guitarist for today," the voice expressed with the dry, jocular humor of the Swedish.

Chris Brenne, a native of Sweden and a resident of West Medford''s (Massachusetts) growing artist enclave, has just returned from a national tour headlining, of all venues, yoga studios. "I''m not quite sure how this all came to be, but a guitar student/yoga instructor of mine and my wife somehow discovered that my instrumental music was being used during yoga practices all over the country, so I decided to develop the experience and play live for yoga sessions."

As it turned out, Brenne discovered that live music during yoga was a completely new thing. The idea of playing recorded music during a yoga practice is not new, especially if one practices in a boisterous neighborhood, but live accompaniment has rarely been done for a whole yoga session. But Brenne was greeted with open arms and the results were stunning. He played over 50 hours of music to stretches and asanas, with any soothed faces offering him their gratitude for the respite of combining two relaxing energies into one complete experience. River Morgan, an Aspen, Colorado registered yoga instructor who''s unusual clientele includes movie stars and queens commented, "Chris Brenne is not only a phenomenal musician, but also a wonderful presence to have within a yoga class. His music flows through the yoga practice like a sweet companion to the breath. It is almost as if Chris could intuit where the practice was headed next and lead us into the grace of the sequences with the waves of his melodies. Across the board all of the students who experienced Chris'' music were blown away and honored to practice yoga with his accompaniment."

Brenne is back home now in West Medford and looks forward to recording his next album, which he, of course, developed in between classes. From the artist:
I try to be true to the music running around my head. In this instance, it just so happened that a former student and friend who became a health and healing instructor after overcoming a serious illness heard these pieces and encouraged me to create Lady of the Spice Lands (version 2.0). She says that she found the music to be "heart-opening". That has been one of the nicest compliments I have ever received. That it might reach even one person to that extent is humbling.

Music has always been very dear to me. As a child it was my friend in need, my playmate to have fun with, my teacher and inspiration to find deeper meaning, culture, and a more fair society. And it''s always been a close companion. Over the years I''ve also been an activist: environmental and social. I worked for Greenpeace for many years and as a teen I was very involved in political development and political youth groups. I have always strived towards combining these passions with music, which is a challenge, especially in our growing commercial world. I, therefore, thank you for your continued support and thank you for shopping at CDBaby, they provide a great service to musicians, the community and culture.

Biographical Info:
Chris Brenne was raised in Kristinehamn, Sweden and was drawn into the world of music after hearing "Sgt Pepper''s Lonely Hearts Club Band" on his aunt''s turntable. He picked up his uncle''s guitar at the age of 13 and a couple of years later founded a guitar/vocals duo with a friend, which then stretched into a trio with a bassist. The three gained national attention when they were included in a Swedish TV program focusing on people making music in their basements and were enlisted to record for Radio Sweden. Feeling the need to expand his musical knowledge, Brenne applied to the Berklee College of Music and made his first trip to the USA with suitcase and guitar in hand. The rest is current history. Brenne has stacked up honors for his playing including graduating from The Berklee School of Music at the top of his class and recently touring with Back Room Productions'' Guitar Masters Concert Series which has seen the likes of Windham Hill artists in past years. His ''new world'' duo, Red Velvet Slide, has also won honorary mention from the International John Lennon Songwriting Competition.
