Who would believe that God would use the game of golf to bring a singer, a pianist and an engineer together to complete a life-long dream to sing God''s praises?
Donna Brady started singing at age 3 and began formal piano lessons at age 6 in a small Pennsylvania farmhouse. Singing in church throughout her teenage and young adult years, her mother continually requested that she record faith-based music including some of her favorite hymns. Donna''s natural mother, Anna Mary, passed away when Donna was only 17 days old. Emma, her adopted mother, who is the only mother she knows, encouraged her to pursue her musical abilities and supported her throughout her educational endeavors.
Jane Cook was raised in a farmhouse in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. She started piano lessons at age 11. Shortly after, she found that she had the God-given talent of playing piano by ear. Jane played an old-fashioned organ in her local church throughout her teens. The joyous passion she brings to the piano is best heard when she creates from within.
Now some 30 years later, Donna and Jane meet on a golf course in California. Mutual love of music surfaces early in their relationship. At the request of a fellow member who is putting on a talent show at their local golf club, Donna and Jane meet to determine what song they can perform. A first time "jam session" results in a lovely rendition of "The Shadow of your Smile", the song chosen as their entry. During the session however, they spontaneously try some old Christian hymns. A tearful, heartfelt afternoon is spent playing and singing. Desert Jewels is born! Many of the songs recorded on the CD "Just A Child" were initially rehearsed that same afternoon.
One day on the golf course, Donna mentions to Jane that one of her life-long goals is to record a CD of faith-based music to benefit childrens causes. Jane cannot believe her ears! Mark''s nephew, Rob Powers owns PowerTraxx Studio in Fishersville, Virginia and this becomes the obvious place to record the CD. Rob is a musical genious. The glorious orchestration that you hear backing the vocals and piano are all Rob''s composition.
