EGO owes its style to two very different musical forces.
Michael Ashcroft is very much a product of England''s ''70s progressive art rock movement, and its influences remain with him, but his musical interests have always been much more diverse, as can be heard in the blues and metal elements in EGO''s melodic hard rock style. Although a great admirer of the Beatles songwriting, Eric Clapton and Peter Green were his first influences as a guitar player. His style has developed over the years to include classical and country elements into his playing.
Nevin Appel was part of the late ''80s Seattle music explosion that ushered in the powerful but short-lived grunge era, out of which emerged Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and many others. Nevin''s vocals show the power and emotion of this era.
All these influences are present in EGO''s music.
