Brent Eresman has been making music for...well, for a lot of years. He began writing songs over 25 years ago, performing them in coffeehouses, churches, outdoor venues and wherever someone would listen. As he has grown, so has his songwriting skill, to go beyond his initial folk stylings to encompass a little rock-n-roll, a little Celtic, a little reggae, a little...well, you get the idea. From the introspective to the celebratory, his lyrics reflect the spiritual side of life-in particular, the spiritual side of his own life. There is no writing about someone else''s experiences here.
Lately his songs have become more diverse in style and complex in nature, leading to the release of his first CD, entitled "Jubilee". Performed by Brent and many of his friends, the recordings on this CD reflect some of the spirit, energy and just plain fun he puts into his music. Brent sings and plays guitar, bass, synth, percussion and many wind instruments, including sax, flute, clarinet and tin whistle. Friends contribute drums, piano, violin, additional guitar and additional vocals.
So what''s the music like? Get ready to do the twist-hey, retro is in, right?-on the rocker "Jubilee Twist". If this doesn''t get you up out of your seat and clapping, you may be clinically depressed. The next song, "God of Grace" begins with a lilting solo on tin whistle and may have you looking around for a leprechaun. Songs like "Daddy", "Here I Am" and "How Are Ya?" are ballads that reach into the soul and touch deeply. "One Heart" invokes the spirit of the Jewish folk song, with some wonderfully emotional singing. "Psalm 42" is Brent''s flirtation with progressive rock, featuring soloists on violin and a rockin'' guitar lead in the middle section.

As the songwriting truly reflects the songwriter''s soul, so this CD reflects his nature as a work in progress. If you are looking for a polished, slick sound, you won''t want this recording. It may be a little rough around the edges in a few places, but because of that it is a more honest reflection of the music, and a more honest look at the artist. And in the listening, you just may get a little more honest look at yourself.
