MP3 Andy Germak - Color Through the Smoke

"A distinct form of 21st century protest music." -All Music Guide (AMG)

12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Folk Rock, POP: Folky Pop

Details:
Andy Germak was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but his family moved when he was only two years old. He has continued to move around most of his life, living in six different states and Europe. Now based in New York City, he carves out his career without the help of a traditional record label by self-producing CD''s, booking his own tours, traveling wherever his van can get him and selling CD''s out of the trunk.

Germak''s songs are a mix of intelligent, sometimes social-political, lyrics and roots-pop musical hooks. His musical style has been compared to that of Freedy Johnston, Steve Earle, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Counting Crows, and REM.

In 2002, Germak''s song, "Spoonfed," was selected for Vigil, a tribute CD compiled by Suzanne Vega with proceeds benefiting families of victims of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center. In support of Vigil, Germak opened for Suzanne Vega at the Library of Congress in Washington DC. The event was part of the "Summon the Heroes" concert series in remembrance of 9-11.

Germak''s 2000 CD release, Color Through the Smoke, was well-received by critics. "Set apart from standard singer-songwriter fare," wrote Rolling Stone. "A distinct form of 21st century protest music," commented All Music Guide. And, "a sense of maturity and depth," added Relix.

Germak has showcased at the NEMO Music Conference (2001), Dewey Beach Music Festival (2002, 2003, 2004), and the Millennium Music Conference (2004). He is presently on tour promoting his new EP, Anybody Ever Really Know Anyone?, described by Time Out New York as, "angsty, Counting Crows-esque songwriting... earnest and thoughtful." The EP is in heavy rotation and charting at radio stations across the U.S. and Canada.
