Details:
Prism Records announced today the completion of Justin Voigt''s 2nd CD entitled "Could it be?" The 21 year old songwriter and performer from Milton, MA says that the first six songs were recorded and mixed in his bedroom studio. The last three songs were recorded at the CD release party of his first CD offering "Enjoy the Times." The full range of Justin''s musical talents is evident on the new CD. From "Seize the Day" to "The Fall" and back, these songs showcase the depth of emotional relationships that are often the subject of Justin''s songs.
In the first song of the CD, "We Still Wait," we are treated to a rock version of relational angst. "If it''s in the past don''t dwell on it. You''ve got to get ahead of it." The beating rhythm and seething guitar are a special treat.
This is followed by one of the CD''s most beautiful songs - "The Only Two." It starts with a wonderful question -"Why don''t you come away with me? We''ve got the whole world to see and time to do it all." Young love is given center stage here. Starry eyed love served up with some lovely harmonies.
Next we are given a special insight into Justin''s philosophical view of life. To sum it up - "Carpe Diem." "Seize the Day" provides some practical advice -"take control. Be a vacuum and learn all you can in your youth, because it''ll pay." We also get a wonderful guitar lead and nice acoustic effects throughout.
The dark side of the CD comes in at song 4 - "The Fall." Clearly the relationship has hit a troubled spot. The music has a soulful quality that supports the lyrics well. This is a long song, but it is carefully constructed. The electric guitar strains provide some real depth as the song proceeds. "But hollow words from hollow hearts, they can''t persuade this face today." We are reminded that in all failed relationships, both parties are hurt; the guitar lead is soulful and strong.
Justin''s "Blinded" is an upbeat, soaring salute to love returned. "Come on over, I think you still fit in my arms. The indentation might still be there..." Again great guitar lead and some nice notes at the very end of the song - like a sweet after dinner.
The title song, "Could it be?," blends together all of Justin''s musical talent in a sing-able plum that will remain with you throughout the day. "The sun came out that day and dismissed the rain, and along with it went the pain..."
The next three songs were recorded live and are acoustic versions of three songs that appear on Justin''s "Enjoy the Times" CD. These are wonderful selections and really add to the project. "How far we''ve come" seems to pick off where "Could it be?" leaves off. The electric version of the song on "Enjoy the Times" is a hard rock song where the voice is way behind the wailing guitar. Here we get to hear the real beauty of the song and the pain associated with a failed relationship. "Sleep" acoustic really allows one to appreciate Justin''s fine vocal quality and fine guitar playing. Finally we are treated to an acoustic version of "The Quiz." We are very fortunate to have this recording. It was the last song of the "Enjoy the Times" CD release party and the attendees wouldn''t let Justin leave until he played this one for them. He gives a fine rendition of what has become one of his signature songs.
It is hard to imagine that these songs are the product of one person playing all the instruments - drums, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, base, vocals and harmonies. But it is true. Justin used his digital recorder to produce these songs in Voigt Studios in Milton MA.
