Socks for Dinosaurs, some general information:
• The Goal of Socks for Dinosaurs was to create a musical community by making a CD. It worked!
The compositional goals of the CD:
• Was to create a unique signature sound, using an array of instruments I love and played by people I adore
• Produce a sound that if I walked by it coming out a speaker, I’d want to know who the artist was
• Was to write songs for my friends to sing without being concerned about restricting my self to any specific style. The need I had originally felt to limit my self to a particular style kept me kept me from making a CD for years.
• Was to be more concerned about the music then about perfection., the sacred flaw concept (Sacred Flaws, look for tune with that tile one of my next projects ;-)

• David Darling, encouraged me to make the CD. David Darling is a renowned Cellist, ECM recording artist .etc. He plays on the following tracks:

Notes about the Songs

o When I wrote this song with the sound Joe Cocker was singing it in the my head, strange but interesting, well at least interesting to me.
• Is Love Real
o A cute little swing tune asking the eternal question

o Corny, but true, I was saved from running over a kid on a bike, I was saved when bullets.... well they didn’t hit the ground but the building
• East Coast Land
o I woke up one morning, while dinking my tea it suddenly occurred to me that I never head an east coast beach song.. I decided to write one, and since I had the changes of that old standard “you don’t know what love is” stuck in my head, that is where I started.
o I did scratch vocal takes for all tunes. . My dear friend Eric who is the lead male voice on the CD refused to re-do this one, he said he couldn’t phrase it the same way as me, and he dismissed my concern about having another lead male voice on one of the tracks.
o . His support and encouragement helped me start my journey to get over my fear of singing. I plan to sing all the tracks of my next album
• Change –
o Is all about that wonderful saying that “Women marry men thinking they will change and they don’t, and men marry women thinking they won’t change and they do.
o Guest vocalist Xantha – Xantha is part of the emerging neo-soul scene in Atlanta, I love her voice, It was joy to have her on the track. More info on Xantha can be found at “https://www.tradebit.com”
• Tar River
o On of the few “weird tacks” that came out well enough to make the CD.
o To me this song accurately captures a dream I had. There is a Tar River, it is in North Carolina
o I love Buddy’s playing. I particularly enjoyed him playing over the 7/4 reggae section in Tar river. It was a music lesson to be there when he listened to it a few times and absorbed the odd meter feel. It was also fun for me to see his reaction to the instructions to play what every he wanted.
• Late at Night
o another tune from my jazzy catalog
o My favorite memory of this tune, is recording the vocal ensemble section with my co-producers in a tiny cabin on the campus of Omega institute in upstate N.Y.
o I hope that somehow the joy we experienced when we did the vocal ensemble section in one take, comes across, I decided not to do another take and trust that somehow what I feel when I listen to it translates.
