BIOGRAPHY OF MARLON EDWARDS
Marlon Edwards was born in Trinidad and Tobago West Indies in November 1968. He displayed an aptitude to sing and dance at the tender age of three. The last of three boys he was always called upon to sing and dance at family gatherings and other functions.
At the age of fifteen Marlon began doing his own writing to compliment his singing. He won an annual singing competition in his college for three consecutive years, 1986 to 1988 using Trinidad''s indigenous music style of calypso/soca. He was noted particularly for his energetic performance and always had his audience captivated and thrilled.
In 1988, Marlon began specializing in writing gospel contemporary Christian songs as he committed his heart and life to Jesus Christ and hence glorified God in whatsoever he did (I Corinthians 10 : 31 ; Colossians 3 : 17) including of course his song writing. He also excelled academically graduating with a Bsc degree in Economics in 1991 from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Trinidad and a diploma in Biblical Theology in 1995 from the Open Bible Institute.
In 1999 Marlon submitted two songs ("No Compromise" and "Christ in Humanity") into the Local Gospel Song Festival in Trinidad for judging. Out of hundreds of entries both his songs made the final list of twelve in which songwriters now had to sing live. Marlon sang "No Compromise" and placed second in the competition. He also copped the awards that night for "Most Spirited Performance" and "Best Recorded Song" In 2000 Marlon served as a judge in the said Festival.
1999 was also Marlon''s debut year as an entrant in the UNISONG International Song Contest in which he was a finalist from over 4,500 entries worldwide with the song, "The Anointing". In August 2003 Marlon entered the said competition for the second time and was not only a finalist again but placed third in the gospel contemporary Christian category with the song, "We Magnify Your Holy Name"
Marlon launched his debut album, "No Compromise" in October of 2000. The song was in the top twenty songs most requested by the public and played by the Trinidad Gospel Radio Station then, "LOVE 94.1 FM" and now, "ISAAC 98.1 FM THE PROMISE". The song "No Compromise" also dominated the airwaves in Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and other islands in the Caribbean/West Indies.
Marlon is presently married and has three daughters. He is an Economist/Commercial Analyst in the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited. He is also a very active member in his church, Immanuel Ministries International as a teaching elder, worship leader, administrator, financial auditor, soloist and singing evangelist innovating with all different types of musical styles as he hears them in his spirit and then pens words of inspiration from God.
As a singer/songwriter Marlon''s desire is for the words and music of his songs to be inextricably married engendering soothing and uplifting melodies of praise and worship in a variety of styles, bringing rest, renewal, refreshing and revival to many troubled hearts and wounded spirits ; his songs having a therapeutic effect in a similar or even greater dimension to that of the psalmist David of the Bible
