Remember Twilo? Neither do we ... but whatever happened there, combined with hundreds of stage performances in New York''s lower east side, contributed to The Portable Genius. We obviously did not come up with this formula. Gear became more accessible and stages became louder, megaclubs went to mostly the unfortunate leaving the urban kid without a soundtrack. We sold our turntables, picked back up our guitars and hit the new, harder sound of downtown NYC. The clubs are dirtier, the drinks are cheaper and you''re on The Guest List if you think you should be.
This record is our first, and it addresses themes of confusion, entitlement, loss, and reckless abandon. It is less a cry for help than a call to arms against unchecked egos and boring nights. We''re bringing back the power trio, adding electronic beats under the guitars and leaving the censors to the majors.
The last three tracks on the cd are bonus remixes of Understanding Orange.
