Watching This Last Breath perform could only be summed up as seeing two trains collide. You never see it coming, and you can''t look away. Hailing from the suburbs of Metro Detroit, this five-piece female-fronted pop/punk band hits the stage bursting with high intensity, much like The Used and Story of The Year. A comparison could be made to Paramore, but it wouldn''t quite hit the nail on the head. This Last Breath cites a wide range of rock influences, from Blink-182 and Rise Against to Four Year Strong.
The band got its start around the members’ hometown of Taylor, Michigan. The five were all friends who had shared previous musical experiences together. Drummer Rob O’Brien and guitarist Chris Walls took the initiative and began the project that would be This Last Breath. After only a few sessions with acquaintance Edda Potestades, they had found their singer. Later on, they asked guitarist Chris Van Hoose to join, and the final addition of bassist Andy Jamison rounded out the lineup.
This Last Breath quickly moved into the Detroit rock show neighborhood, not bypassing the larger, well-known venues such as St. Andrew’s Hall, the Majestic Theater, and the Emerald Theater. The band has spent time sharing the stage with touring acts such as The Wonder Years (No Sleep Records), The Material (of MTV and the video game RockBand) and Versus The Ocean (Takeover Digital Records).
This Last Breath released an EP entitled "Love Letters to Kill By" in March 2007 and quickly followed up with a short-run demo which was distributed for free. The band spent the later half of 2007 and the first half of 2008 promoting and touring the region through the Midwestern and Eastern states, including Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and New York. It was decided in the summer of 2008 that they would record a full-length album.
The album, entitled "Burn The Summer," is being released on February 28, 2009 independently, without label support. It was produced by Jan Calo of Envisual Studios. The combination of catchy melodies, gang vocals, and witty lyrics define the album as the new age of pop/punk-meets-hardcore.

"Once the band started its set, there was no comparing it with the bands that preceded it. With audience banter and simultaneous guitar maneuvers, This Last Breath was, by far, the most electrifying."
~Lauren Bjerk / For The South End~

One thing is for sure, This Last Breath has what it takes to keep audiences paying attention. They may spend their weekends in dimly-lit bars and VFW halls, but their future is all too bright, and they turn the phrase from their own song "Handgrenades" when they say: "We''re not giving up!"
