Details:
Silveroot’s second album “Big Difference” lives up to it’s title in earnest when compared to the rather all acoustic sound of “Full Measure,” the group''s first widely acclaimed CD. While the cut “Ozone” still holds a firm grip on the groups “previous” sound, even it is more developed and rich in overtones and complexity. Mainly, it is the addition of bass, drums and "banjotronics" that places this collection of tunes more in the mainstream of Americana. The always stellar songwriting of Patrick Flynn still shines full force on all of these selections, and the musical collaboration of Flynn, Darryl Webb, and Emily Palen, is stunning in it’s originality and genre busting abilities. Adding to the overall complexity are three tunes with Mardell Mardeaux on violin, that exude another distinct element altogether, and guest vocalist Ilaya, joins Darryl on the powerful “Brazil.” Also included is a song by the late Bill "Stotle" Smith: "Kansas City Redball."
All this adds up to a fascinating array of musical virtuosity from a most unusual group of versatile players who re-define the bounds of music appreciation in a most enjoyable and convincing way.
