KIM DUNN

Kim Dunn has been working on a successful music career for nearly 30 years now, with a brief four-year reprieve studying Jazz at Saint Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
Kim has worked with the who''s who of east coast artists in Canada, including, Rita MacNeil, Bruce Guthro, Matt Minglewood, Jimmy Rankin, Gordie Sampson, Morgan Davis, Lennie Gallant, David Myles, Jill Barber, Dave Gunning, and George Canyon.

Kim has performed in the United States, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, and has toured extensively throughout Canada.
He has garnered much respect and demand for his abilities as sideman, and has producing, writing, and arranging credits as well.

In 2003, Kim was the recipient of the first MUSICIAN’S SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT, EAST COAST MUSIC AWARD, an award designed to honor the integrity and merit of the consummate sideman, and given not on the basis of votes, but rather a selective process on the part of the industry, and extended on the basis of accomplishment – an honor indeed, to have received this recognition in the year of it’s inception.

Personal highlights include having had the chance to meet and work with Alison Krauss, Peter Gzowski, Philip Glass, and performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
Most recently, on March 19th 2009, Kim took part as both Musical Director and featured performer in the concert ‘Tunes for Troubled Times: Music of the Depression Era’ - a special night of music, that saw a number of performers take stage at the beautiful Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was recorded and produced by the CBC.

TAKE THIS HAMMER

After playing on countless CD’s of other artists, Kim has brought his songwriting, and singing to the foreground with his first solo project, ‘Take This Hammer’.
His biggest asset has always been versatility and he has implemented this feature prominently on this self-produced debut CD.

‘Take This Hammer’ offers a variety of flavors, falling in the Roots/Folk category with elements of Jazz, Blues, and Pop throughout.
The playing, writing, and arrangements stand alone, but what really shines, and drives this material home is Kim’s voice – soulful, rich, unique, and confident.
If you are a fan of Randy Newman, Lyle Lovett, Harry Connick Jr, and early Elton John, you will love this Cd.

On March 7th 2009, the CD was featured on CBC’s Atlantic Airwaves, and is enjoying a regular dose of airplay as well; all coming just shortly after its release, weeks earlier.

Thanks to his years of experience, Kim has produced music on ‘Take This Hammer’ that is seasoned, possessing a certain maturity - qualities that are not always associated with first time efforts, and long after the final track has subsided, you are left with the feeling that you have not just simply listened to 12 songs – but rather, an amazing album of music.
