Biography

Through the dedication and hard work spanning over twelve years, Elliot “Luv” Rousell has gained the respect of many local artists and DJs in New Orleans, LA, his hometown. On January 20, 2009, Elliot Luv released his first album entitled Blaque featuring the first two released singles Only You and Let Her Dance, through his co-owned, independent record label R.E. Music Group.
Elliot Luv’s soulful, contemporary style and lyrical twists has been influenced by soul music of the 70s and 80s, a talent that stems from a lineage of family entertainers. “I like to think of myself as a singer of truth,” says Elliot Luv. His father, L.S. Tolbert, and uncle, Lionel Tolbert, are prominent singers with roots in New Orleans and when you hear Elliot’s music and catch a little gospel resonance; thank his grandfather, Cannon Jones, who was a wonderful gospel singer.
In addition to being a songwriter, producer and artist, Elliot Luv is creating a powerful scene in New Orleans that will both entertain and allow locals to socialize and network. “I love positive energy, and I love demonstrating that with others,” says Elliot Luv. Hostel, a contemporary night spot on Decatur Street in the French Quarters, is the setting for Elliot Luv’s The Lava Lounge, open mic/jam session production where artists are encouraged to let their creative juices flow.
Elliot Luv’s music has reached and has been widely accepted by variety demographics. In February 2006, he showcased his talent at the Apollo Theater in New York with rapper Jack Spratt to salute New Orleans with a (Hurricane) “Katrina” anthem. In that same year, he won the Morris Brown College talent show in Atlanta, GA performing an original song, Love Kisses. In 2007 in New Orleans, Elliot Luv produced, hosted and performed open-mic sessions at the Ray’s Boom Boom Room venue on Frenchman Street and electrifying music shows at the Hookah Café. Elliot Luv has also produced an assortment of mixtapes, including R&B City, Vol. I and the popular, “Songs in Da Trash Can”.
With all of his accomplishments thus far, Elliot Luv is certainly a great addition to the ever-growing family tree of Louisiana artists.
