Details:
On Friday evening, the 18th January 2008, Richard of Eire signed up to the online social networking website MySpace: A Place for Friends as he felt a need to let people around the world know of his work; know of his existence. Being a self-originating publisher, he was just about to publish his sixth book, and needed a way to tell the world about it.

Having had for a number of years been consistently shunned and rejected by literary agents and publishers on his native island of Ireland, he had said to himself that enough is enough, and that life and he were moving on. And so it was with a hitherto unknown courage, and an abundance of enthusiasm combined with an openness to adventure did he present himself to MySpace: present himself to the greater world as a self-designated rural philosopher, poet, artist of the lyrical kind; a nuptial hermit of the Green Desert, namely of the beautiful isle of Eire (Ireland).

With getting to know some people on MySpace, he soon found himself attracted to their beautiful and variegated photograph albums, paintings, and melodies. He began to wonder what it would be like if he were to write a few poetic lines for such works of art. Would such an approach be acceptable to his newfound friends, he asked himself.

In earnest, he began, and soon found to his great delight that not alone was it a most enjoyable experience, but that also his friends were responding very favourably to such an approach. And as time went by an idea albeit vague and nebulous at first began to present itself to his mind that of writing poems for as many friends as he could, and at some time in the future including all of them in an anthology of his poems.

Then came the idea, what if he were to also include some of his friends’ comments in such a work, would it not be even more interesting! This was followed by a wondrous idea that of turning a limited MySpace timeframe experience into a creative work that would not alone include poems that he had composed for his friends, and their comments to him, but that the comments and poems would have a setting that would be a challenge for him to produce, and as such would hopefully be a most charming experience for the reader.

Richard of Eire whose Gaeilge name is Risteárd Mac Suibhne, and in English, Richard Mc Sweeney was born in 1955 in Fermoy, County Cork in the Province of Munster. He is happily married and lives in the beautiful border village of Tallow in County Waterford with his wife Sung-ja Lee, son Richard, and daughter Iris.

His Primary inspirational mentors would be the 3rd century BCE Chinese Taoist philosopher Chuang-Tzu for his constant reminder that true philosophy is of the flight of the butterfly; the 9th century CE Irish philosopher Iohannes Scottus Eriugena for his courage to freely speculate on even the greatest of human concerns, and in an age too when such profound questioning was looked upon as a waste of time; the 16th century English literary genius William Shakespeare for his admirable ability to transform his uncertainties with syntax into a powerful and enchanting art form; the 18th century Austrian musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for his extraordinary ability within the difficulties of life to create some of the most beautiful music the world has ever heard, and the 18th century English poet-artist-mystic William Blake for the serenity of his self-confidence in his inspiration though it meant for him a life of isolation, misunderstanding, and poverty.

Interestingly, that while Richard of Eire’s inspirational mentors for the most part have all been men, his writings have women taking center stage.

Primary influences on his writings to date:
Spiritually: Native Eireinn, Christian, Jewish, Sufistic
Philosophically: Nature of Eire, The Chuang-Tzu
Literarily: John M. Synge, Kahlil Gibran, William Blake, William Shakespeare, Authorized Version of the Bible (esp. Psalms, and Solomon’s Song)
Aesthetically: William Adolphe Bouguereau

Quotations:
“… in these new days and in these new pages a philosophical tradition of the spontaneity of speculation kind has been rekindled on the sacred isle of Eire, regardless of its creative custodian never having been taught how to freely speculate, how to profoundly question, and how to playfully define.
Spontaneity of speculation being synonymous with the philosophical-poetic, the philosophical-poetic with the rural philosopher-poet, and by roundelay the rural philosopher-poet thee with the spontaneity of speculation be.
And by the way of the rural what may we say?
A philosopher-poet of illimitable space we say.
Iohannes Scottus Eriugena the metaphor of old salutes you; salutes your lyrical ear and your skilful strumming of the rippling harp.”

“This eloquent, honourable road you have chosen be surely a solitary one, and oft quite lonely it will be for thee, yet be of a joyful courage for in like balance rewarding it will be.”

Richard of Eire writes on a variety of themes, but primarily on those to do with promoting beauty, good-naturedness, love of family, artistic expression, respect for the natural world, and cosmic considerations. Much of his work is written in a style that lends itself to both exoteric and esoteric interpretations. In addition to his own works, he has a liking and admiration for instance for:

Chuang-Tzu: The Chuang-Tzu

Geoffrey Chaucer: The Canterbury Tales
Giovanni Boccaccio: The Decameron

Till the Lady of Good Counsel be with strolling

When Richeart is away sojourning in the beyond,
I do come here to our lovely place; yes, this a favourite place of ours,
where of long summer days we do oft chat n’ picnic the lazy hazy time away,
till the Lady of Good Counsel be with strolling there in the yon mid southern sky of eve.

I see his charming eyes upon my face;
hear his mellifluous voice in my ears,
scent his fragrant breath in my hair,
savour his smile upon my lips,
feel his soothing hand upon my soles,
think his profound words upon my mind, n’
heart his munificent love within my heart.

Here about M31 am I with happy remembrances n’ forward looking;
forward looking to sojourning upon planet Earth of Solar Garden Dreamtime:
Solar Garden Dreamtime of that there beauteous far n’ near Spiral Galaxy.

While there I will stroll with Swan to a lovely place; yes, a favourite place of ours,
where of long summer days we do oft chat n’ picnic the lazy hazy time away,
till the Lady of Good Counsel be with strolling in the yon mid southern sky of eve.

I miss her charming eyes upon my face;
hear her mellifluous voice in my ears,
scent her fragrant breath in my hair,
savour her smile upon my lips,
feel her soothing hand upon my palms,
think her profound words upon my mind, n’
heart her munificent love within my heart.

Places here n’ places there; places everywhere to sense-heart.
