Born in Vancouver, Canada, Rhys Clark walks a path unlike many. Moving to Toronto at the age of 2, Rhys can still remember listening to English soul band Simply Red in the car with his mom. Dancing in the living room to the Gypsy Kings was a usual occurrence, and after moving to Old Tappan, New Jersey at age 6, next-door neighbor Andrew Nathans introduced Rhys to the drums. After showing his parents how truly dedicated he was, Rhys started taking lessons from Sal LaRocca, a well-known and well-respected Jazz drummer and teacher who toured with Junior Mance as well as other high end acts throughout the 60''s and 70''s. While playing through Elementary School, Middle School, and High School, Rhys developed a unique talent for the drums, finishing 1st in the All North Jersey Regional Band 2 years in a row. While playing drums with band 201-Love (Joe Lepore, Josh Ellison, Brian O’Neil, Tom Burzi) which gathered over 200 people at local bar Jose O''Reilly''s in support of their single ''Broadcast from Babylon,'' Rhys picked up the guitar and started to play. Locked in his room for hours on end and playing until his fingers bled was a clear sign of his obsession. After 201-Love started to fade, Rhys teamed up with rhythm guitarist Joe Lepore and started playing open mic nights at local restaurants and bars. After writing a few songs, Rhys approached producer and engineer Anthony Scott DePerto, who graduated first in his class at SAE Institute of Technology in New York City, and talked about recording his first song ‘Can’t Go Wrong.’ Even though Rhys and Anthony had worked together before, (201-Love recordings), there was an immediate spark when Rhys wasn’t confined to only one single instrument. After recognizing what was in front of him, Rhys started to record his first five-song EP self-titled Rhys Clark. To make things easier with time and money, Rhys played every single instrument on the recordings, which gives each song a unique feel. Enjoy!!
