"I Will Trust in You" marks the latest collaboration between vocalist Wes Hampton (Gaither Vocal Band) and guitarist/producer George Vinson (Project Onefifty). And while this seems an unlikely pairing, Wes and GV have a history that goes back a few years to when both served on the staff of a large church in Birmingham, AL.
Wes was one of several featured vocalists on George''s 2004 release "Spheres of Influence", and GV has helped Wes with several events and projects during the last few years. But when the opportunity arose to re-record two of his most popular tunes, George turned once again to Wes to reprise his role as vocalist. Not only did he readily agree, but Wes graciously offered to feature both songs on his newly revamped website (https://www.tradebit.com).
The original acoustic version of "I Will Trust in You" has been heard all around the world, and there are many fans who''ve related stories of how this introspective and hopeful song has encouraged them to persevere through times of adversity. Based on a passage in Psalm 56:3, the song itself was inspired by just such a period of trial and testing in the life of George and his family, and "I Will Trust in You" was a God-sent confirmation of love, grace, and mercy.
If the original has been described as a quiet prayer for the promise found in Psalm 56, then this new version can rightly be called the ''sound of hope''. Big and bold and majestic, this new arrangement not only compliments the message of the lyric but in a sense completes it.
"Forty" is yet another song by GV that is based on a Psalm (number 40, to be precise!). The original version''s "Pink Floyd meets reggae" groove has given way to an infectious rock pulse that is reminiscent of Coldplay and the Police. Wes gets to stretch his musical legs, delivering a powerhouse vocal.
But at the heart of this special collaboration is the prayer of these two men for people all around the world to find comfort and encouragement during difficult times. The promises found in "I Will Trust in You" and "Forty" are timeless and eternal; that in a world of faithlessness, there is One worthy of trust, ever faithful to deliver... the very One who ''put a new song in my mouth''.
