Details:
Barry Kingston cut his teeth recording and touring around the East Coast with indie roots rock stalwarts The Breakdown in the 1990’s. The band reached a pinnacle of success with the then music orientated MTV playing their video for the Barry Kingston penned "Standin’ in the Fire", in heavy rotation. A recession reeling, belt tightening music industry then took its toll, and the Breakdown descended into myth.

From the embers of the Breakdown, Barry Kingston began again on this debut disc, "Nothing But Real". Kingston plays rock music like it was meant to be played—-with feeling and heart. This record was renowned producer/engineer Danny Bernini of Spirit House Records, and Barry''s first effort together, and what an outcome it is! They have since have collaborated on four full length album releases under the Barry Kingston and the Screaming Souls moniker: "Shakin from the Trees", "Split Wide Open", "Live: Pass it On", and most recently--"Screaming Souls IV". Kingston has a back catalog of rock, funk, and soul that stands the test of time. Nothing But Real is the perfect example. It''s substance is what the title states---real music by a performer that can actually perform! How refreshing!

From the opening second of the intense "Nothing But Real" to the dreamy and brooding "I Question You", this record takes you on a real journey. Great guitar riffs abound on tracks such as "Ocean Above" and "Trust" while the lyrics can get to you as easily on a track like "Sweet Love" (an ode to love lost that really sinks it''s teeth into you). Closing out the record is "Screaming Blues", reminding the listener of a Beatles rocker like "Revolution"---Kingston knows how to pay tibute to his roots. This song also sets the thematic tone of inner struggle so prevalent on Kingston''s later Screaming Souls records.

Notably, Kingston teamed up with childhood friend Billy Delnegro for some of the songwriting chores. "Ocean Above" and "Sweet Love" are a tribute to this collaboration and round out the disc nicely.

Through Barry’s many performances, he has developed a loyal following of fans dedicated to his music and performing talents. There are many great musicians. There are many fewer great musicians who are also gifted performers. To hear Barry Kingston on record is one thing, to experience the power of a live performance—quite another.

This record is as good a place to start as any to get acquainted with Barry Kingston''s music. Consider it an entrance to a world where music is not just a form of entertainment but a way of life. It is talent caught on grooves in a digital form that can help you through the night and rock your socks off at the same time. What more could a rock fan ask for?
