Details:
Fritter is the solo project of Elizabeth Steen, who lives, works, and knits in Boston, MA.

Steen grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, the middle child of a violinist mother and a father who sang with a local dance band. She studied classical piano from a young age, performing with the Pittsburgh Symphony at the age of 16 and later earning a Masters Degree in piano performance. But it was playing a Vox Continental organ in a surf band that led her into the pipeline of the Boston music https://www.tradebit.comm there she played in a succession of bands and eventually began working with Count Zero, a wildly inventive rock band with a devoted following, Tanya Donelly, with whom she continues to record and play, and Natalie Merchant, in whose band she’s toured and recorded for many years. She teaches elementary school music in the Boston Public Schools, where she tries to light fires like the one when she heard Abbey Road for the first time at age 10.

In 2003, Fritter released Mockery, with producer Peter Moore, and band members from Count Zero, Natalie Merchant’s band, and Kill Henry Sugar. The sound is richly layered with keyboard and guitar textures and shimmering effects, which delve and dart much as the lyrics do around such themes as disillusionment, self-deception, and wobbling convictions.
