Kimberly Begin grew up around the greats of southern rock, bluegrass, blues and country music, sharing the stage since she was 7 with artists such as the Marshall Tucker Band, Molly Hatchet, Bonnie Bramlett, Dickie Betts and Charlie Daniels. Doug Gray of the Marshall Tucker Band was a mentor to her for 11 years, pushing her out on stage and pushing her to be an artist with soul and appreciation for other musicians. When she was 9, Kimberly began classical voice training at the Sarasota Opera House in Sarasota, Florida. For the next 8 years she followed a rigorous path of lessons, rehearsals, and 6 opera productions. Voice instructors Elena Pierini and Lance Inouye helped her to attain acceptance to several music schools for classical voice, but Kimberly was dissatisfied. In the summer of 2007, while performing at open mic nights around New Hampshire, Kimberly realized that, as much as she loved classical music, her heart was in the music she had been raised on. Kimberly started to write songs and developed her unique folk/blues/indie style. She gained further experience while attending high school in Florida, singing and playing guitar in acoustic acts and rock bands, gathering a following of her peers and opening for artists like Hagus Magagus and Paul Baribeau. In February of 2008, Kimberly auditioned for the Berklee College of Music and received a scholarship to study contemporary voice and songwriting in the class of 2012. Now based out of Boston, Kimberly continues to write and perform, playing at Berklee’s Café 939, King''s Bar and other venues around the city. Recently, she had the opportunity to be instructed in the art of songwriting at two Berklee College of Music clinics by the multi-talented songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist John Mayer and the brilliant and legendary singer and songwriter Paul Simon, fulfilling two of her lifelong dreams.
