Singer Petra Scheeser and Pianist Oliver Hahn have created a beautiful, lyrical album, straightforward without superfluous décor.
The songs meander between rhythmic piano riffs, soothing dreamy melodies and mystic soundscapes.
The CD develops a downright addictive quality with the song “Turnin´Old”: Petra´s accusing, surprisingly smokey voice and a delicate piano in the foreground tell about the fears of life.
“The Pearl” brings up memories of a stormy day in November: Water clashes against the windows, and it seems as if the piano´s impressionistic runs make the rain come alive.
“The minimalistic formula – one voice, a piano, a little percussion sometimes – may seem archaic to some in today´s world of seemingly borderless technical possibilities. But to us it promises a kind of freedom: The chance to be ourselves and as close to our audience as possible.”
And to get an impression of this closeness, live recordings of “Rainy Days in August” and four other songs have been included… really worth listening!
