MP3 Janet Ettele - Piano Mandalas
Reminiscent of Windham Hill and George Winston, this improvised piano music was spontaneously recorded with the intimacy and ambient warmth of being in the room with the piano. Soothing, tranquil and contemplative, it creates a relaxing environment.

It’s funny how one kind gesture can evolve into something with a life all its own. As a Christmas gift, I was given some time in a recording studio. Even though I’ve always longed to be a jazz pianist, when I improvise, the music that comes through me is more along the lines of George Winston. Since I’d never considered recording before, the decision to go ahead and give it a try was one of those things that one could say was “on a whim.” I had just spent a long weekend with friends on the Jersey Shore and hadn’t touched a piano for about a week. I decided not to worry about perfection, but to just allow the music to come as it always does - in the mysterious way most art flows - from that fertile space between mind and spirit. It is when I play in a free-flowing, improvisational way that I literally slip away from the mundane and into a place of peace. When I shared the finished product with several friends, it was that sense of peace that seemed to be experienced by everyone who listened. I was strongly encouraged to turn the CD into something that could be packaged and distributed. While I hold a degree from Berklee College of Music, it is not “chops” that you will hear in my music but more the synthesis of a life that has been deeply interwoven with a spiritual path, a great love of life and gratitude for the opportunity to both feel and express that which transcends language through music.
