Rob Vischer looks forward to getting old. “At my high school and college graduations, older friends joked that my best years had passed me by,” says Vischer. “Their humor was laced with years of bitterness and regret. I didn’t want that.” His new album The Best is Yet to Come is an optimistic invitation to commitment and risk.
The title track was written for his colleague, Lois Hardy, as a gift for her retirement. “Lois makes you believe older is better,” says Vischer. “She’s one of the many people who inspire me to seek wisdom rather than youth.” Among those “many people” Vischer admires the risk takers most.
“Sometimes life offers you a choice between risk and regret,” he says. “I’ll take the one that makes for a good story.” It’s clear that good stories inspired his new release. The cd opens with “Unpredictable,” a track about leaving his office job to go on a bike trip across America. His adventure in playing hookie from normal life begins June 1st and ends never. “I’m ready for a new normal,” says Vischer. “I want every step to be a step of faith, not of caution.”
Faith wraps Vischer’s songs into a graffiti album sprayed with truth and passion. Jack Johnson, Remy Zero, U2, and Mat Kearney leave a noticeable mark on his masterpiece. “My album isn’t meant to be safe,” Vischer says. “It’s meant to be true.” He weaves melodies and lyrics together with different genres in a way that belts the emotion and whispers a message. “Beauty can stop me dead in my tracks. It turns my head to look and my ear to listen,” says Vischer. “I want my music to arrest your senses and turn you toward real love… love that has a sense of wonder for every day and every situation. Love with commitment and risk.”
