Details:
Singer/songwriter Natasha Luna was born in Peru in 1981. She released her first album "Emilio" on her own in 2005, receiving strong positive reviews from all the major publications in her country. The album has 11 tracks of dark and slow-paced music (pianos and strings are the main ingredients) accompanied by clever, soliloquy-style lyrics. However, despite the good reviews, her production was so independently managed that it remained a rarity.
She spends her time between music and her academic career (she is currently pursuing post-graduate studies in Philosophy of Art at La Sorbonne, Paris).
In 2008 (again, only in Peru) she released her second album "N". The reason for this title is the album cover, a sort of homage to Fritz Lang''s film "M". The darkness has remained but this time a stronger spirit has come through; the lyrics have gained richness and depth, and the music, an obvious complexity (her first album was described as somewhat monotonous and hermetic. She claims it was the only texture possible for she is too “monotonous and hermetic”).
During her short career as a musician, she has only made four shows and refuses still to make some more.
Her music can be described as a blend of a dense, sort of morbid and repetitive piano, phantasmagoric cellos and violins, all with a cinematographic feeling that goes along with it. She explains that cinema (and literature for that matter) are her biggest influences, and that should explain why her style is so visual.
Some have described her music as an example of artistic freedom, an her style, as the representation of tragedy. Whatever it may be, it is clear that she has an intense drive towards macabre feelings and obscure moods. In her second album she is more evident than she was in "Emilio" about the influences that have shaped her tendencies: the tragedy in Anna Karenina''s fate, the higher nature of the ugly and clumsy Baudelaire''s albatross, etc.
She is already planning to start recording a third album in 2010. Of course, no date of release is yet clear.
