NEIL HEWITT Bio-

I was born in Ames, IA on August 18, 1988. I grew up in Nevada, IA (pop. 7,000) and graduated from Nevada High School in 2007. Music all started for me when I was at a Church camp in Story City, IA around 11 years old. I noticed all the camp counselors could play the guitar and I thought that was the coolest thing ever so when I got home from camp I asked my parents to let me take lessons, and they said yes. I started taking lessons from Al Biela at Ames Music Studios when I was 12.

Like every kid my age, I liked rock n roll. However it didn’t take me long to realize that my heart was in country music. Soon I was playing nothing but country music! Everything from Johnny Cash to Travis Tritt, I wanted to learn it. My uncle who lived in Nevada, IA at the time used to come over with his mandolin and we would play and sing every night until he moved away. He introduced me to so many great country singers and I just caught the bug.

Then one day in 8th grade, our teacher announced that they were having a talent contest for our grade. I had never sung in front of anybody before, and I was usually pretty shy so most of my friends didn’t even know I played guitar. But for whatever reason I entered the competition. I chose to sing a song by Jimmy Wayne called “Stay Gone” which was new at the time. The evening of the talent contest came and it was my turn to go. I went up there in front of my grade of about 140 with no microphone, just me and my acoustic guitar and I sang the song. As I let the last chord ring the entire crowd jumped to their feet and cheered! It was the most memorable experience I have had so far. They asked me to play the song again so I did. From that night on I knew I was going to be a country singer.

After the first performance I started getting asked to sing at local events around my home town and eventually started getting paid for it. In the next couple years I was playing all over Iowa and Missouri at several county fairs, oprys, rodeos, State Fairs, and just about anywhere I could drag my guitar (and my parents, haha). My junior year of high school I decided to record a CD in Trenton, MO at Song Bird Recording Studio. I wrote 3 songs on the CD and began selling it at my shows and eventually got a song or two played on the radio while in High school. After graduation in 2007, I moved to Ames, IA to attend Iowa State University. I continued playing and writing while going to school. It wasn’t until the end of my freshmen year of college that things really started to change. I was contacted by long time Nashville talent scout Wanda Baird. She had heard of me from a friend and she wanted to know if I would be interested in going to Nashville. Obviously I said yes! Wanda soon put me in contact with several industry people in Nashville, one of which was producer/musician Gary Sadker. It turns out Gary Sadker is the President on Red Ridge Entertainment, located in the heart of Music Row. Gary is a veteran to the music business and has toured with many stars such as Billy Dean and Holly Dunn playing piano. Gary soon became my producer and we quickly made plans to go to Nashville.

To make a long story short I made my way to Nashville and began recording a new album, which would later be titled "Roll the Dice", after a song I wrote for the album. I was very pleased to be able to put two of my own songs on this album. As a young artist I felt really lucky to be able to add some of my own material to this album to make it more personal. I plan to continue writing songs and improving my craftsmanship so I can have more of my songs on future albums!

The two songs written by Hewitt on the album are "Roll The Dice" and "Good Thing at A Bad Time".

I have been very lucky to have been so successful at such a young age. I owe everything to my family, friends, and of course all of you for buying my CD! I couldn''t do this without you! To be able to hear my songs on radio now is an awesome feeling and I hope I can hear them nationwide someday! But as long as I''m able to make the music I love and have people come out to the shows, I''m a happy guy. Everything else is just a bonus!

I feel very lucky to be doing what I love and I want to thank everybody who has helped me along the way! I am getting very busy with promoting the new CD and booking more shows all the time! Check my websites for tour schedule and recent info on my career! Thank you and I hope you enjoy my music! Come out and see a show soon!

Thanks,

Neil
