No, we’re not talking about the burrito joint down the street or your favorite coffee shop. We’re talking about the music of singer-songwriter Elizabeth Hunnicutt. Based out of the frozen tundra of Minnesota, Elizabeth has been writing music for several years that has a way of engaging the listener’s heart and mind in refreshing ways. Serving as an expression of her own journey, Elizabeth’s music has a personal feel, as if she’s singing entries from her journal. Faith is the foundation of Elizabeth’s thoughts and perspectives and that comes through in her honest and heartfelt lyrics. She’s not afraid to ask questions or voice her doubts, and her music paints a picture of life that recognizes things aren’t always easy, yet the path is often littered with hope.

Born on a farm in rural Nebraska and raised near the mountains in Colorado, Elizabeth found her way to the urban setting of Minneapolis-St. Paul for college. This diverse mixture of “homes” has not only shaped her life experiences, but also the music in which these experiences are shared. Perhaps best described as acoustic-folk-pop, her music is finding a home with a variety of listeners in all stages of life. Being a songwriter, performer and a worship leader gives Elizabeth a wide array of opportunities to share what has been put on her heart and connect with people in different settings.

While Elizabeth has shared the stage with talented artists like David Crowder Band, Mat Kearney, Brooke Fraser, Shane and Shane, Sara Groves, Dave Barnes, Derek Webb, and Ginny Owens, she can also regularly be found leading worship at churches, colleges, retreats, and conferences. “I love getting to engage with people musically,” Elizabeth explains, “but I also love connecting with people off the stage. I believe relationships and community are vitally important, and I want to help foster those things.”

In 2006, Elizabeth Hunnicutt was awarded the Gospel Music Association Academy Song of the Year for her song “Alright,” while also taking home the second place award for “Drink You Deep,” both off of her second album, Finding Me Here.

When talking about her love for songwriting, Elizabeth says, “I find that songs can sometimes convey what your heart is feeling, but words alone can’t express. I love writing a song, only to find out that it’s exactly what somebody else was feeling, but couldn’t quite figure how to say. It’s amazing knowing that you were able to do that for someone.”

Elizabeth’s latest record, On the Way, is a great example of her talent as a singer, songwriter, musician and storyteller. Building on the success of Finding Me Here, this new project offers more folk elements and a wide variety of unique musical moments. Taken from the last few years of Elizabeth’s life, the songs on her new record tell of life’s joys and hardships, while bringing a refreshing element of hope. On the Way is set to be released in March 2009.

Wherever you are in your journey, Elizabeth’s music is sure to be a welcome companion as you walk, stumble, and find your way through life.
