SM: Eat A Muffin Take A Sip (drip, drip) is the sixth CD album from JD2. I wondered where the name, idea and songs came from so I asked JD2 if we could talk. He''s one of the most prolific writers in todays world and on top of that he''s a very personable chap as well. He joined me for coffee and delicacies at Java Joe’s Juke Joint in Sweet Tooth Chimera.

SM: Many thanks for this time and for all those that have not heard this CD, I need to ask you right up front about the title. What''s that all about?

JD2: Well, when you listen to the song Eat A Muffin Take A Sip (drip, drip) [or watch the video on the YouTube link below] you''ll understand much more than I could explain. It was just one of those things that came out of my head. As for the Leftover Bits, that came about while looking for songs to put on this album. I took some songs and wrote the titles on separate slips of paper and placed them in a hat. Then I picked out a few at random, but I didn''t see any of them going together as an album. When I looked in the hat, there were 12 songs left. (Which was strange because all my albums have 12 songs on them.) I checked out the 12 remaining songs and liked them, so I left them in the hat. Then my manager came in the next day and said, "What''s in the hat, leftover bits?" I said, “Yes! and thanks for the subdominant headline on my next CD.”

SM: Does this CD have a subject theme like the rest of your CDs?

JD2: Oh sure, the theme is Leftover Bits! I mean you know, the subject matter varies from a social commentary song like "We Are The Humans" to a food and life reflecting song like "Eat A Muffin Take A Sip" (drip, drip,), to a vocal/instrumental song like "Guitar Music" to a feel good, rhythmic baseball song like "We Got The Beat," to a song about "Confusion" to "You Are The Sun" which is about our Sun that keeps us all alive, and then a fun country song called "Dip Stick Daddy" and five others that I’ll let you figure out on your own. So I have 12 more original songs; I just choose them in a different way. I mean it’s what it says, Leftover Bits! So! – Eat a Muffin Take a Sip (drip, drip).

SM: Would you say this album is a break from the past in that it doesn''t carry the same subject line throughout, like Love, or whatever?

JD2: Yeah, you could say that, although it does have a theme, just not a conventional one. You might say the theme is to not have a theme, just a few leftover bits. Like me, I’m a leftover bit. When I started writing songs I had trouble getting others to sing them. That’s when I wound up singing them myself, even though I''m not much of a singer. Now people are coming out of the woodwork to be part of what I''m doing, even asking to cover some of my songs, including the leftover bits. Such is life!

SM: Do you prefer doing an album like this or is it just a one time thing?

JD2: Well, it''s the first time I''ve thought about it. It was fun to get away from the standard theme where I write for a specific subject. Either way it''s a lot of work so I guess at least the variety is nice. I may try it again someday.

SM: And what is in the future at this point?

JD2: Well I''m still on the road with my highway tours and I''m working on a new CD project called "From Prison Bars 2 Rail Cars, (1) Eye''s Always Watchin''." But I have to take care of my present situation first or I''ll never get to that.

SM: Well, I know you''re busy and I appreciate you taking the time to talk.

JD2: Hey! Everybody''s busy; it''s my pleasure. My thanks to all the busy people out there that take the time to read and listen as well. Hope to C U on the highway of life folks. Until then, Eat A Muffin Take A Sip (drip, drip).
