The Lee Robin Band was born out of the singer-songwriting skills of Lee Robin, a Long Island Native. At a young age, Lee Robin mastered the drums as her primary instrument and went on to play professionally in several bands in New York City. As the music scene changed, Lee Robin took a new interest in the singer-songwriter circuit in New England, and with a permanent move to Connecticut, she found herself at the heart of a new project, the Lee Robin Band.
Moving from the back of the band to the front, with sweet vocals and rhythm guitar, and a zest for writing tell-tale songs, Lee Robin has combined her many years of performance into a rockin’ acoustic ensemble that has been compared to Lucinda Williams, Jewel, and Lori McKenna.
Part of what makes the Lee Robin band unique is the multitude of instruments and seasoned many years of experience offered by the talented band members. Hugh Smolin and Rit LaPort provide the solid “in the pocket” rhythm section, combining drums, bass fiddle, bass, acoustic bass, and Dobro. Barry Hartford and Tim Lembo round out the band with crafty electric and acoustic guitar, and mandolin.
For the Lee Robin Band, 2008 brought the culmination of their debut CD Bitter River, a collection of songs that takes the listener on a journey through the flooded streets of New Orleans, (track 1) to a hospital room to bear witness to a tragic verdict, (track 5), and even to the whimsical mountaintop of Everest, (track 7). Bitter River attests to the variety and pomp characteristic of the Lee Robin Band.
Like a sunny day on a comfortable porch with friends, hanging out till the sun goes down, the Lee Robin Band masterfully engages the listener, while keeping it fun.
Bitter River is a thoughtful snap shot of life. Each character or experience is remembered through memorable choruses and distinct melodies. All eleven tracks will leave a lasting memory. While Bitter River has a bitter side, it also has a sweet side, which will bring you back for more.
