When you hear their roots-rock based tunes, you won’t believe that Lorenzo Bertocchini & The Apple Pirates are from Varese, Italy!

Imagine a big party where everybody is singing, dancing and having fun. The wine and the food are Italian, the music is American, the stories are from all over the world, and the company is great: guests include Jim Croce, Van Gogh, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Marcello Mastroianni, Doctor House, Elvis, Gustav Klimt, Federico Fellino, Uncle Fester, The Rolling Stones, Elliott Murphy, Gennaro Gattuso, Tom Waits, the Dalai Lama, Spike Lee, Valentino Rossi, Barack Obama, Loudon Wainwright III, Jesus, Dan Bern, Robert De Niro and Amy Winehouse...

That''s what an Apple Pirates show is like: it feels like carnival, it feels like summer, it feels like a holiday, and mosto of all it feels like fun!

Their music is a tasty blend of rock, folk, blues, country and soul.
Their songs are about love, loss, one-night-stands, hitch-hiking, drinking, eating, washing machines, sad factory workers, happy hookers, Italian bandits, American highways, Scandinavian sailors and Bollywood actresses (wait until you hear their blues-tarantella, "All I Want For My Birthday"!).
Some are powerful, some are delicate, some are bitter, some are sweet, some are realistic, some are nonsense. All of them are inspired and honest.

The Pirates’ energetic shows earned them a cult following in Italy, where people call them a “folk’n’fun band”: it means a group of friends playing with passion, the knack for improvisation, a well developed sense of humour, an air of self mockery, and jumping around the stage until they can’t stand no more.

Their debut album, “Greatest Hits”, includes 13 vibrant originals, a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Two For The Road”, and a previously unreleased Elliott Murphy song called “Time To Love (Again)”: a bunch of story-songs that are nostalgic, funny and surprisingly moving.

Their brand-new CD, “Uncertain, Texas” (March 2009), is packed with 15 truthful, strikingly original, new songs wrapped in irony or just plain naked. The record opens with “Everybody”, a lovely, radio-friendly little song; “Last Clean Shirt” is a nocturnal escapade to God knows where; “Too Lazy” is the first Apple Pirates reggae; “San Secondo” will take you back to the Middle Ages with passion and irony; “I Am” is an acoustic goodnight kiss.

A lot of characters meet in this album: Elvis, Doctor House, Valentino Rossi, Jesus, Amy Winehouse, Robert De Niro, Gennaro Gattuso, Tom Waits, Unlce Fester, the Dalai Lama, Spike Lee, Bob Dylan and Barrack Obama, only to name a few.
Let the CD play... You won’t regret it!

"Lorenzo Bertocchini is like a son to me: so attentive and so rebellious". (Elliott Murphy)

Lorenzo Bertocchini (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica) also likes to occasionally perform and record solo. With his deeply personal lyrics, there is no denying the honest raw emotions revealed in his songs.

In 2004, he released his first solo CD titled “Whatever Happens Next”, featuring 26 original tunes showing off his wide musical range encompassing soulful ballads to straightforward rock’n’roll, as well as some spicy country-folk, and your basic down and dirty blues. The CD booklet contains a unique portrait by his multi-talented artist and friend Dan Bern, in addition to liner notes by old pal Elliott Murphy.

In 2007, Lorenzo released “Live At The Sidewalk Café”: 13 songs, 48 minutes of music and fun, the CD was recorded on December 6, 2006 in the heart of New York City’s East Village. It features Lorenzo ‘solo and acoustic’ and captures the incredible energy in the room the night of this performance. The flow of these songs takes you on a tuneful journey full of strong melodies along with biting irony.

Lorenzo''s fan base in Europe has propelled him to the top of the Americana list overseas. One of his US tours included sharing the stage with Bruce Springsteen at the Light of Day benefit concert.
Over the years, Lorenzo has shared bills/stages/recording studios with such artists as Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Bob Neuwirth, Eric Andersen, Dan Bern, Elliott Murphy, and Rosie Flores.

Lorenzo Bertocchini & The Apple Pirates are currently on tour, including benefit concerts for the Emergency bringing medical help to civil victims in war torn areas around the world.
