"Trieste" is the sixth cd from Sleeping Dogs Lie which is recorded entirely with found object and homemade instruments.
All money (100%) made from Trieste and the other five Sleeping Dogs Lie cds sales and downloads go to the Susan G. Komen for the cure... Dedicated to my mother-in-law, Sandy Southwick... the bravest person I have ever met.
As far as the instruments, I made a guitar out of plywood, fishing string, twine, bolts for tuners and bamboo skewers for frets... man, I did a bad job with that fret job! I kinda had to play all around the "guitar" until I found a decent chord and said "sounds good here, let''s make a song." I also made a big stand-up bass out of plywood and pine. I used picture wire for strings. It''s really hard to keep that in tune, but it actually plays and sound pretty nice. The drum kit if metal 5-gallon drums with clear yellow vinyl shower curtains for heads... I used a big beer bucket for the kick... not very deep, but the shelf bracket with the golf ball on the end is used as the mallet and it play pretty smoothly and sounds pretty sweet. Topped it off with a silver serving tray for a cymbal.
The rest of the instruments were as follows: Bob''s Barricade reflector, egg slicer/ Corona Bottles & drinking glasses/ sea shells / bucket handle / bucket bottom for cymbal / piece of wood with string / cut up shower curtain xylophone / taped paper tube and sticks / metal bathroom waste basket... and a few more things that I''ve forgotten at this point.
Sleeping dogs lie is indie rock from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida headed up by songwriter & musician Eric Guenette with an ever revolving cast of musicians that sit in on various recordings. Some of the other musicians include Jim Sarmiento / bass, Darryl Shea / bass, Michael Grillo / electronics, Jerry Jordan / percussion, Holly Guenette / random instruments, Sean Guenette / trumpet, David Conway / vocals, Bowie / meowing, David Goodman / guitar & vocals, Ron Macapayag / percussion, Todd Zimmerman / voice, Scotty Jefferson / guitar among others.
The music is essentially indie rock with a wide variety of tones, unique chord arrangements and lyrical creativity along the lines of Beck, Stephen Malkmus, Sparklehorse and the Violent Femmes among others.
