Do the experiences of a man''s life dictate the true age of his soul? If so, then I''ve far surpassed my 25 years. Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI; I have spent my life in the Midwest. As a child, I was forced to face the hard realities that life throws us all. My father passed away when I was a young child, and left me with my mother, who struggled with the demons of drug use. I spent much of my childhood as part of the foster care system. I started writing poetry at the age of eleven as an outlet for everything I was dealing with, At the age of 15, a man named Darrell Coleman, a local musician, encouraged me to expand on my poetic talents and try my hand at rapping. This man literally took everything he had and built a studio, based solely on his belief in the talent that he saw within me. I am forever grateful to him for that. Initially I was reluctant but the faith he had in my talents convinced me to make that leap into music. Stemming from my love for hip hop and inspired by the genius of artists such as Jay Z, Naz, and Tu Pac, I have been pursuing this dream ever since. Putting the word to the page is something that continues to provide me with a therapeutic release, a way to share my experiences with the world, hopefully providing a voice of power and encouragement to children going through the same situations that I went through.
As a solo artist, I recently started my own company Da'' One Nation Corporation. I started out as a member of the musical group "Artwork". Our hit single, "Slugs", won critical and fan acclaim throughout the Midwest, and has been recognized nationally in places such as London, Atlanta, Milwaukee and New York. Throughout my musical career I have preformed for powerful political figures at many major arenas, events, and social clubs such as Taboo in Milwaukee, WI., Questions, The Rave, The Riverside Theatre, The African American Women''s Center, The Apollo in New York, Beale Street, Cotton Club, Club Nostalgia, Perines in DC, and Club 20 Grand in Atlanta, GA. I have also won numerous poetry and lyrical contests such as The Slam Competition at Taboo Nightclub in Milwaukee, WI. As CEO of Da'' One Nation Corporation I had the opportunity to work as a poetry instructor for children at St. Charles Boys Home. I also volunteer as a mentor to local children in my community to show them there is a way out and give them someone to look up to. I have worked with several local and national award winning producers such as Big Hank, Koo-Laid, Godzilla, Brad from Z Studios, Jessie of the Band Center, and a plethora of others. I have also been featured on television programs such as Milwaukee Talent Showcase Live. I am humbled by the love I have been shown by those who support me in all of my endeavors. I am inspired by the world in which I live, as well as by my five year old son Dawan Nation Jr. (Lil'' Wan), who is my everything. His mesmerizing personality and intelligence give me the reason to spread my message to all people.
