Folk singer and songwriter Phyllis Blackman is considered a redoubtable force in the world of pop /folk music and her recently released single "I Think Of You" from her new Soldier''s Lullaby album confirms the originality and innovative nature of her music. Written as a loving ballad, this palpable expression of support for the men and women serving in the American military will surely tug at the listener''s heartstrings. The heavy bass and snaredrums serve as the backdrop for the inspired lyrics "When I''m lying in my bed, a soft pillow for my head, I think of you, I think of you. Are you sleeping on the ground with your enemies around, I think of you, I think of you." Her clear and hauntingly lovely voice is in rare form and at times reminiscent of a mother singing a lullaby to her child. If you''re a Judy Collins fan, you''re in for a real treat as it''s difficult to make the distinction in their unique styles.
Blackman says that all the music she writes is purposeful. "I wrote this album to bring comfort to our troops. I hope that my lyrics will bring some solace to the families that miss them. I want them to know that we are all thinking of their brave relatives in the Armed Forces. Every day they risk their lives to protect ours and I wanted to express my deep appreciation to them."
Her first album, "Come Home" was released in November of 2007 and was written to awaken people to their spirituality. Her second release entitled "Forever", was an ode to honor her beloved parents and as a vehicle for others to appreciate and come closer to theirs.
Phyllis states "I truly hope that "Soldier''s Lullaby", will be sent to military personnel by their wives/girlfriends or husbands/boyfriends to let them know how they feel and be closer even though they are miles away. It is my fervent wish that my music will touch people and make their lives happier and more appreciative of all the wonderful gifts and opportunities they have been given.
