Rick Adams (born February 3, 1981 in Bellflower, California) is an instrumental rock guitarist and recording artist from Yorba Linda, California. Heavily influenced by Eric Clapton and David Gilmour, Adams incorporates funk, jazz, techno and New Age elements into his songs, which often feature symphonic arrangements and various musical sound effects devices.

20th Century Guitar magazine calls Adams “a solid up and coming guitarist offering a fresh approach to instrumental rock fusion.” Adams writes and composes all of his songs and plays every instrument.

Raised in La Mirada, California, Adams’ musical interest developed at an early age after listening to a collection of vinyl records and eight-track cassettes owned by his father who also possessed a couple acoustic guitars. At age 7, Adams learned drums through his father as well as the music of The Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, The Animals, The Doors and Cream, among others. At age 9, Adams picked up the guitar and took lessons where he learned songs by Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan. After three years of guitar lessons, Adams studied piano and at the age of 14 gained possession of a four-track cassette recorder on which he recorded drums, guitar and keyboards individually on each track to produce the effect of a three-piece band. The following year, Adams distributed demo recordings on his high school campus and interviewed for a yearbook article entitled, “Rick Adams: The One-Man-Band”.

In 1999, Adams released a five-track instrumental EP entitled, “Beginning of the End”, from which two songs, “Dreaming”, and “Spaced Out”, rose to the https://www.tradebit.com top ten rock charts. Later that year, Adams graduated from Sunny Hills High School and attended Fullerton College where he studied business and music. In 2000, Adams moved to Yorba Linda, California, and performed in jam bands while engineering for local artists.

In 2002, Adams formed a production company, Spearhead Entertainment, and released his first full-length CD, “Midnight Rain”, on which he played drums, guitar, bass and keyboards. The eight-song CD was reviewed in 20th Century Guitar magazine and later sold over the Internet. 2003 saw the release of Adams’ second full-length CD, “On the Edge”, which was also reviewed by 20th Century Guitar magazine and sold online. Within a few short months, Adams made his way onto major online music services such as Apple iTunes, Rhapsody and MusicMatch Jukebox, among others.

In 2004, Adams returned to the recording studio to compose for his third release and attracted independent producer Scott Mathews (Carlos Santana, David Bowie, Bonnie Raitt). In July of that year, Adams signed with Mathews and recorded his third CD, “New Beginning”, at Tiki Town Studios in Mill Valley, California. The eleven-song CD features reproduced selections from Adams’ first two releases as well as three new songs, “Eyes of Fury”, “Running Back to You” and “Autumn Nights”.

Since 2004, Adams has licensed his music to MTV Networks and been featured in The Orange County Register. His music has been made available on over 50 digital music services including Napster, Sony Connect and MSN Music. In 2006, Adams received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio, TV and Film from California State University, Fullerton, and returned to the studio to record a selection of orchestral arrangements. His fourth CD, “Confessions”, is currently in production.
