Planet Titanic….No need to Panic.
The story regarding the sinking of the Titanic revealed that the Captain of the world largest liner of its time was told several times to turn around; that danger awaited him. But, he refused to listen. Unfortunately, this story resembles the behavior of our captains of leadership in regard to the planet. They continue to receive many warnings that terrifying danger awaits, yet they remain in denial refusing to listen. Now according to the wisdom of my mother “a hard head makes for a sore behind.”
In creating this CD entitled “Planet Titanic” we wanted to draw attention to the dire state of our planet caused by global warming and the failure of our leadership to enact urgent and deep reduction of carbon emissions. While our corporate servants posing as leaders discuss this problem, Greenland and major ice shelves in Antarctica are falling into the ocean as a rapid pace (Track #2). One would think that rising sea levels, steadily increasing numbers of species going extinct each year (25,000 or more annually, particularly the honey bee) and warnings by our best scientists, would spark some real action by our leaders. But no, they still insist that we have until 2051 to reduce our CO2 emission in half….In other words there is NO NEED TO PANIC.
While panic may not be the proper response, immediate education, and behavioral change can no longer be delayed. It is my opinion that art and music can help accomplish this goal; especially among the young, who stands to suffer most from this continuing earth’s destruction. Therefore, the objective of this CD is to break the issue of sustainability down to a listening audience (e.g., young, poor, and minority populations), who for the most part continues to be left out of the conversation. However, the real challenge will be to get them unstuck from the beat, focused on the content, and willing to take action….or better yet willing to take back their minds from the
Merchant Men.
Our government cannot solve the problem of global warming unless we the people overcome our addiction to consumption. Unless we untie the rope around our neck held so tightly by the merchants this problem will only worsen. I address this issue of consumption and climate change on Track # 7 “Selling out the Planet” where I suggest that the earth is in “distress by corporate driven mess” and how most of us will do anything to participate in the pageantry that continues to destroy the planet. On Track number four “Corporate Fools done stole the Cool” I make the claim that wall street peddlers took street culture, doctored it up and sold it back to the public as bogus cool; and the public bought it like Hot CAKES. It made them rich, and kept the majority of us working for pennies. The merchant men steadily increased our appetite for more junk that contaminated our water supply and air, and toxic waste that could not be properly disposed of.
Track # 6 “Days of our Lives,” also show how these same merchant men convinced the youth to participate in their own destruction and seduced the adults to play at parenthood….Caught in the paper chase with the Success “Dog Collar” (Track # 10) around their necks they had no time to properly mentor, or protect their young from becoming prey to the merchant machine. Leading the Nappy Dread Sorcerer to believe that we have been abandoned on the planet with “Heathens” (Track # 5).
This CD is released in Celebration of Earth Day 2009. However, the Nappy Dread believes that every day is Earth Day, for the earth is our mother and should be held in the highest esteem and honored by daily gratitude. It is our source of power, however, the tricks of the merchant men has “divorced too many of us from its source,” and as a result we willingly destroyed that which sustains life. But this is the “Poetry and Prophecy” (Track #1) spoken by Chief Seattle (Track # 11) long ago about the hairy man from the East; that his “appetite would destroy the earth leaving behind only a desert.” ….I recapture his prophecy as a reminder in this CD as an attempt to wake up the Earth Warrior inside each man’s heart. For we cannot allow these “Heathens” (Track # 5) who somehow believe they have dominion over the earth; to destroy great grandmother earth and grandfather sky. We must listen to our ancestors and once again remember our oneness with all our relations (Track # 9….Luxury of the Tree).
This CD was sent by the ancestors in an attempt to reprogram those who will listen, and to warn earth’s inhabitants that just because it’s another “Lovely Day in California” (Track # 3) it doesn’t mean that the executioner will not someday soon bring the wrath. So come and help us “Pray” (Track #12) to save all our relations from the destructive forces of mankind, including our own
Behinds.
We must act now as suggested by Al Gore, Greenpeace and our best scientists to reduce our C02 emissions in half by 2020. The warnings are clear.
