Orlando Dixon ...
Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Orlando is a twenty year old whose musical goal is to become a Singer/Songwriter. As well, he would like to be an industry partner in elevating the music of his generation to a standard where it celebrates longevity, artistry, and substance. Orlando’s musical abilities are
natural and, like many, have their roots in gospel music and the church. Since the age of six he has shown his ability to perform vocally and has been showcasing his talent publicly through numerous venues and competitions since age eight.
Making the decision to begin showcasing his talent early has had its pitfalls, but it has also paid off in a string of first place awards in local talent competitions. His winnings and accomplishments are: grand prize winner of Disc Makers’ Catalog Cover Search Contest (April, 2009) https://www.tradebit.com including being featured on the cover of one of Disc Makers’ catalogs AND their Design Studio website; winner of VH-1’s Song of the Year Songwriting Contest (https://www.tradebit.com, November, 2006). Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation. Judges for this endeavor are some of the biggest names in music, many of which include Grammy Award winners; awarded both local and national winner of the Epilepsy Foundation’s ENTITLED TO RESPECT (E2R) campaign (2003, sponsored by R&B singer Monica) for his creation and entry of an original selection composed and written to educate public awareness about epilepsy.
He further celebrates prizes that include cash, studio recording hours, photo shoots, and opportunities to perform at local venues. In 2004, Orlando auditioned for American Idol, making it through three rounds. In that same year, he was one of the NAACP’s Talent Competition finalists.
Orlando is currently enrolled at Berklee College of Music (Boston, Massachusetts) as a Music Business/Management major, with an interest in Music Publishing. Among the many opportunities he has been presented while attending Berklee, include performing with established artists such as Lalah Hathaway, Paula Cole, and Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire. At the same time, Orlando continues to focus on pursuing a career as a singer/songwriter.
