Decatur, IL-born Marwan Akil Abdullah, grew up the youngest of two brothers. Marwan, whose early influences include Stevie Wonder, Boyz II Men, and Take 6, began singing in high school when he formed a 4-member singing group (Blynd) with his older brother Ezra and two friends. This group performed at countless shows in the Midwest including various appearances on television and radio. After some years the group split. Marwan and Ezra then formed a duo (My Brotha) which gained the attention of LA-based artist manager/promoter Jimmie Maggette of ME Entertainment. During the partnership with ME Entertainment, the two worked with some of the music industry''s hottest multi-platinum and award-winning producers and songwriters including Mike City, St. Nick of the Underdogs, Paul Allen of PAJAM, Marley Marl, and Kashif. Following the partnership with "ME", the brothers decided to focus more heavily on songwriting and music production. It was in December 2008 when Marwan performed an original acoustic song "Change" at a north Chicago open mic that marked a turning point. The response from this spur-of-the-moment performance convinced Marwan to write a solo album encompassing the soulfully smooth vocals and Hip Hop beats that had defined previous projects, but also including acoustic performances reminiscent of the Chicago open mic scene. Since then, Marwan has gained huge exposure as an acoustic R&B Soul artist at venues throughout the Chicagoland area, while participating heavily in the open mic scene to the tune of roughly 3 shows per week. May 2009 marks the completion and unsigned release of Marwan''s debut solo album "Immortal", through which listeners experience this self-taught musician''s refreshing interpretation of life. The entire album was written, recorded, and mixed in Marwan''s Chicago apartment (by Marwan) and features guest appearances by two emerging artists: Ezra (R&B/Indianapolis) and Patrice (Pop/Chicago).
