Originally recorded 1995, the band’s soulfully grooving, stylistically eclectic debut was digitally remastered for re-release in 2006. Alternately explosively funky and supremely cool, the ten track collection—which sounds as fresh and current now as it did when it originally came out—is the perfect primer for the ensemble magic that defines Spur of the Moment. Wayne Bruce shows his rockin’ electric side on tracks like the brassy, energetic opening title track and the edgy, percussive R&B jam “Betta Dayz,” then chills with his gentle acoustic behind Brian Lenair’s tender sax melody line on “When Can I See You Again.” Kenneth Allen showcases his romantic Quiet Storm-vibing vocals on “Longer Than Forever” and “I Wanna Thank You,” then struts with a playful, jazzy keyboard solo on the mid-tempo seduction “911.” This sparkling debut also features enjoyable and well-produced covers of two R&B classics, Earth Wind & Fire’s “That’s The Way Of The World” and the Jam-Lewis Janet Jackson hit “Anytime, Anyplace.”
